Optimising Internet Explorer V6, V7, or V8 for use on Betfair Conducting the following processes resolve problems known to occur, but if after this issues persist please contact Betfair. 1. Firstly is your browser (some customers are not aware software used to access the Internet is called a browser) a version of IE. To find out, click Help link and at bottom of menu click About Internet Explorer. Customers nowadays are running V7. 2. Click Tools at top of browser, then in menu highlight Pop-Up Blocker (depends whether you are running latest version of IE6 with SP2, V7/V8 on XP or Vista), then in sub menu click Pop-up Blocker Settings and type *.betfair.com into field Address of Website to allow, then click active Add button on right to transfer entry into Allowed sites box (if not excepted you will need to add www.betfair.com, www2.betfair.com and sports.betfair.com one at a time). Then click Close. 3. If you do not have Pop-Up Blocker line or sites have been added, then click Internet Options link at bottom of Tools menu. 4. V6, on General tab click Delete Cookies, then click OK on pop-up. Next click Delete Files, place a tick in Delete all offline content box of pop-up and click OK. Finally click Settings and click Every visit to the page to select and OK to close. V7, on General tab, in Browsing history section, click Delete, Delete all, then Close. Finally click Setting, then Every time I visit the webpage to select, then OK to close. V8, click Safety above the web page on right hand side, and then click Delete Browsing History. On pop-up deselect all bar Temporary Internet Files, Cookies and History, then click Delete, (you may wish to leave/insert tick in Passwords before deleting). 5. Now click Security tab, then click icon Local Intranet, and slightly lower down and to right click on Sites button. Then click Advanced, then add *.betfair.com in subsequent pop-up as in paragraph 2. Now click on OK, then OK besides Advanced. 6. Now click Privacy tab, check slider on left is set no higher than Medium, third graduation from bottom. If slider is not visible click on Default. 7. Now click on Content tab, then AutoComplete Settings. Note only recommended tick in left hand boxes is Web Addresses, V8 Address Bar, as if malware accesses a computer there is a potential security Issue. For V6 having removed any ticks, click on Clear Forms and Clear Passwords buttons in turn, OK’ing each pop-up. V7/V8 follow instructions/click delete button to clear Auto Complete History 8. Now click on last tab Advanced, and then for V6 look for sixth entry down Disable Script Debugging (V7 eighth entry, V8 ninth entry) and ensure a tick is in box. Next grab scroll bar on right side of window and pull down till you see Use smooth scrolling just above HTTP 1.1 settings. If there is a tick in box remove it. Then check that next box down Use HTTP1.1 has a tick in it, but next one Use HTTP1.1 through proxy connections has not. Now click Apply and shortly after OK to close. From a Betfair perspective and Internet Explorer is concerned no other settings need to be checked, though every three months or so you should delete Cookies and Files (Browsing History). NOTES Newly installed browser applications often have a Pop-up Blocker running as default. If above process fails to resolve, try turning off your firewall software (for a short time only) resolves problem. If so, try adding www.betfair.com as a trusted site, in the anti–package application. If issues persist then the highly reviewed free combined firewall and anti-package Comodo Internet Security Suite from Comodo may resolve: http://personalfirewall.comodo.com/download_firewall.html Problems, such as a market not loading, may be resolved, having cleared out cookies and files, by changing language field from say English – UK to English – Can and if this resolves to revert back. Or try changing site address to www2.betfair.com. If you still have a problem, you can email Betfair advising actions taken, though we suggest you call Helpdesk direct on 0870 0110 444 or International number 1800 759 354 if appropriate. |

Betfair Video - Troubleshooting FAQs 1. What do you recommend for me to view video? 2. Do I need cookies enabled to use the Media Player? 3. Media Player won’t connect to the video stream? 4. The live stream stops mid-stream. 5. Media Player displays but nothing happens? 6. Media Player buffers the video but the video never loads? 7. The video displays like a slide show. How can I fix this? 8. There is no audio with the live stream. How can I fix this? 9. The audio sounds like chipmunks - too fast. How can I fix this? 10. What do I do if I get an error about codecs? 11. Still having problems? 1. What do you recommend for me to view video? For Video Player's best performance, use Windows Vista/XP or 2000, Microsoft's IE 6 or above and Windows Media Player 9 or above. This Video Player is not supported by other browsers or other players. To download the newest version of Internet Explorer use the link, http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.mspx To download the newest Window Media Player use the link, http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/default.aspx 2. Do I need cookies enabled to use Media Player? Cookies must be enabled to watch video, otherwise the video player will launch but nothing will happen. 3. Media Player won't connect to the live stream. 1. Ensure that it is close to the scheduled time for the live stream. 2. Try reinstalling Windows Media Player from the link above. 3. You may be having problems with your firewall. 4. The live stream stops mid-stream. 1. Press the Play button to reconnect to the stream. 2. If the Play button doesn't work close Media Player and click on the live-stream link again. 3. This problem may be caused by a slow computer or too much web congestion during the course of the live stream. Unfortunately, there is little that can be done to fix this. 5. Media Player displays but nothing happens? If you are unable to watch video in the Media Player: 1. Verify that you meet the system requirements (operating system, browser and Windows Media Player) as outlined above. 2. If you meet the system requirements but still have difficulty accessing, we recommend you disable any ad or pop up blocking software tools, including Internet Explorer and Norton Internet Security Suite, that you may have installed and try again. When pop-up window blocking is enabled, the ad blocking feature automatically blocks the programming code web sites use to open secondary windows, which include the video player. 3. Check that you have cookies enabled. 6. Media Player buffers the video but the video never loads? If the video player buffers video but never loads the clip or loads the clip but the video stutters then your DSL/cable providers using Network Address Translation (NAT) may not be forwarding UDP packets properly. The solution is to disable UDP in Media Player. For more information on disabling the UDP, use the link, http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;307650 To disable the UDP protocol, follow these steps in the Windows Media Player: For Windows Media Player version 9.0 and later: 1. On the Tools menu, click Options. 2. Click the Network tab. 3. Under Protocols, clear UDP. 7. The video displays like a slide show. How can I fix this? The video that you are watching is sent, or streamed, to your computer over the Internet and video quality over the Internet is mediocre at best. The faster the connection, the better the quality and size of the video. The speed at which these files can be streamed varies depending on your computer's "bandwidth", in other words, if you have a high bandwidth connection (i.e. cable, DSL, T1/LAN connection), your computer can receive streaming video at a higher speed than a user with low bandwidth (i.e. modem / ISDN) connection. This means that a user with high bandwidth can receive larger, better quality video stream. On the other hand, a user with a lower bandwidth may receive the video as a slide show or choppy if they cannot receive the full video stream You can also check your video card settings. Set the number of colours higher than 256k colours. Finally, you may be experiencing problems due to bandwidth congestion. If the problem persists, we also recommend checking back at a time when your Internet service provider may experience less congestion to see if there is an improvement. 8. There is no audio with the live stream, how can I fix this? To be able to hear the audio on videos, you must have a working sound card and your computer speakers turned on with the volume set at an appropriate level. If you still receive video without audio verify that your system audio works by playing another audio application and/or checking your speaker and headphone wires, ensuring the volume isn't set to low or muted. 9. The audio sounds like chipmunks - too fast. How can I fix this? Updating your sound card's driver might take care of this problem. If you need assistance with getting the latest version of your sound card driver, contact the card manufacturer. 10. What do I do if I get an error about codecs? If a codec error appears when you attempt to watch video, you may be experiencing an issue downloading the necessary codecs needed to view video. You can remedy the issue by manually downloading and installing them. For more information and to download codecs, use the link, http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/format/codecdownload.aspx 11. Still having problems? If you are still having a problem, please email the Helpdesk at info@betfair.com Be sure to include as much of the following system information as possible: • Where you are accessing the streaming from (work or home?) • Can you access Internet media streaming from other sites? • Internet connection type (dialup or broadband?) • Type of computer (e.g., PC or Mac) • Operating system (e.g., Windows XP, Mac OS 10.2) • Version of Internet browser (such as Internet Explorer 6.0) using the steps described above • Version of Windows Media Player (e.g., version 11.0) using the steps described above |
