I realise these guides are free, but there must be an option added to look at the form in usa lines style. It is great you include so many previous runs, but there is no way of telling what a horse is about from these guides.
If you can't see what a horses run style is you might as well go and bum yourself.
Report prufrock November 10, 2010 3:47 PM GMT
The run style, where it can be established, is indicated in the comment itself, along with distance/going/consistency etc.

This is taken from the horse's position, adjusted for field size, early in its last three races.

That is someone elses opinion though, there is no way of telling what happened in any of the races.
Unless this is just aimed at mugs?

These new form guides are welcome although I agree with fawwon that they have limited appeal to proper US handicappers. However I am puzzled to see how Betfair/Timeform will benefit from providing form guides for US tracks such as Laurel Park where Betfair markets are not offered and not shown on ATR Stateside. The number of punters who bet on these non Betfair market/non ATR tracks must be very small and punters will have to use rival bookmakers' sites.

agreed....must be for mugs....ANYONE wanting to make money or learn something must invest in good past performances... understandably, most UK bettors don't understand this because the info on offer in UK is comical ....You can buy unlimited PP's from drf.com for 600 GBP per annum....you can split the membership up with friends as it is unlimited access.

i think it is a step in the right direction by betfair and timeform, but the problem for me is that on timeforms past performances there is no indication at what level the horses have run at previously. all it gives you is previous runs, date, track, and  jockey etc. so did the horse run in a maiden claimer, claimer and for what price, or an allowance or stakes race. no indication given.

A very disappointing effort imo. For anyone who bets on US racing seriously these formguides are next to useless. It's a shame really because with a little more effort Betfair and Timeform could really have been on to something here.
Report prufrock November 15, 2010 7:06 PM GMT
That is someone elses opinion though

The run style is derived directly from the positional data provided from the track. There is no "opinion" as such, though horses with mixed run styles are difficult to define.

All feedback appreciated and will be acted upon if possible/appropriate.
Report fawwon November 15, 2010 7:15 PM GMT
There is no way you would use these "guides" to form a strong enough opinion to make a bet though is there?

There is no detail whatsoever.
Report prufrock November 15, 2010 9:02 PM GMT
The emphasis in the comments has been to give the reader information that has already been analysed - effectiveness at distance, on going, consistency, run style - rather than a welter of statistics which would leave the reader to figure such things out entirely from scratch.

The latter approach may follow if there is enough call for it, but there is considerable detail implicit in the comments already.

its good that betfair have bothered to provide some kind of form for free

however anybody using this to have a bet is at a loss already imo

the backform has no mention of how good a race was what grade it was e.t.c

don't know if you are connected with betfair or what, but as previously stated by myself, and virtualfan there is no indication of what grade the horses previous form was in that would be another step in the right direction

Nashwan1965, I developed the comments side of things for Timeform but did not get to see the back-form until just before launch. I agree that race value/race type should be in there and believe that this will be implemented in the next release.

Appreciate your constructive criticisms.

Hi Prufrock.

Although this work is appreciated. In this format i would not use it

I want decide the run style of horse and not Bris  cappers, not Equibase cappers or Timeform cappers

Provide the USA format as well imho then you may get some Bris, Equibase, DRF  users  convert to using Timeforms product.

Thanks, empty. We are very aware of that, but also aware that you are in a minority. We hope to cater for that minority in due course.
