USA classifications:
maiden maiden claimer "restricted" claimer (non winner of 2 lifetime, 3 lifetime, etc) claiming race... allowance races (races where horses are not eligible to be claimed)....many different restrictions such as: NW 2 RACES LIFETIME NW OF AN ALLOWANCE (not including maiden, claiming, or starter allowance) NW OF 2 ALLOWANCE NW OF 3 ALLOWANCE NW OF A RACE SINCE XXX many possible restrictions on "allowance" races...read the conditions of the race starter allowance: restricted to horses that have started for a specific claiming price Handicap/Stakes race: probably similar to a "Listed" race (at good USA tracks) then you have the Graded Stakes...same as "group" in the USA, you can run your horses where YOU see fit, not where the "handicapper" puts him (of course, they must qualify for the conditions of the race) |

Thanks very much Winston. A very different system to the UK - looks like handicaps are very rare.
Do you know if it's possible to work out what surface (turf, dirt, other) a race will be run on just from the information on Betfair (or do I need a race card, paper, site)? I realise you probably have better things to do than answer Dr Evil's questions, I'll stop being a pest after this . |

Someone else may be able to answer that...I've never looked at it....I know the ATR web-site also put up info on USA races, but I've never looked at it, either. TBH, (not to sound like a jerk), but I make anyone 1.01 to lose if they do not buy "form sheets"....we call them "past performances".....drf.com is the bible for uSA bettors. It costs about 60p per card (meeting)...if you buy in bulk, it's a lot cheaper....drf.com puts RP to shame. Better to watch for a while before you make a decision. If you want to be successful, you'll need to put in a massive effort.
BTW, another popular race run in the US is "state-bred" races (mostly allowance, but sometimes claimers, too)...these races are restricted to horses that were bred or foaled in a certain state. off to lovely lingfield ![]() |

CLOWN, do you have a clue?
Any damn fool can "cut & paste" the US condition categories but YOU DIDN'T ANSWER THE POSTERS QUESTIONS: "I want to know which races are handicaps." & "Obviously "hcap" is a handicap, but are any of the others?" The answer is simple. Handicap races are ONLY those races classified in the condition book as a "handicap". PERIOD. This is where the track racing secretary will assign the runners weight based on past performance so as to his opinion all runners will have "an equal chance of winning". Other races involve weight concessions for age, past performance or claiming price for example but they are NOT considered handicaps as those weight assignments are universally pre-identified in the condition book and NOT arbitrarily assigned by the track race secretary based on his opinion. Get a f@cking clue, CLOWN...........and NO in the US you CAN'T run your horse "anywhere you see fit", that's why we have condition books and a TON of RESTRICTIVE clauses. What a joke. |

Everything you post on here confirms that you are a CLOWN. A sick man suffering from megalomania, delusions of grandeur a (un)healthy dose of napoleon complex, but a CLOWN nevertheless.
