interesting. Woodbine is one of those tracks with a lot of fav's beaten. Actually it's a very good track for laying, one of my favs. It looks like THEY never know there, but if you say so..

Was speaking to a guy today who recalls overhearing(earlier this year in Florida) a very prominent U.S. trainer telling a top Canadian trainer that he has made more money on Betfair than he makes on training a year

No one said anyone was cheating - just making a lot of money. Very hard to compete against them. You would think that there other trainers/jockeys doing the same thing. Remember Betfair owns TVG and sponsoring races throughout North America.

Are English trainers/jockeys allowed to make bets on Betfair ? If so - same challenges.

I have noticed that some stables and their entourage(Woodbine) have moved to betting on Betfair. The problem is it is a painstaking process at times with low liquidity. Really not construed for the big score.

cheers, angel.....people i know who know Scott Lake have told me many times that he never bets....if trainers are laying their horses, that is cheating....if trainers are backing their horses, I couldn't care less....have you ever spoken with a trainer?  They are utterly clueless.....the only time their inside info is useful is when they run a 1st timer, when a horse is returning from a lengthy layoff, or when their horse has gone lame....otherwise, they're as useless as the comedian.

I am only telling you what I was told - not sure what he does.  It's true that many trainers are clueless when it comes to backing - I know a few of them. But some of them are very good - know some of them as well.

I used to own a share of a donkey with Kate DeMasi and both her and Greg had no clue whatsoever when it came to a horses chances.

No doubt some are better than others.

there is a lot less "cheating" in US racing because the handicapping system works a lot better.  In the UK, there are benefits for losing (handicap mark).  Furthermore, the prize money in UK racing is so pitiful that betting coups are necessary to make ends meet.  The cheapest horses at Delaware run for $15,000, most horses train in public (at the track), and trainers can run their horses wherever they think they can be competitive (for the most part). 

Scott Lake trains several hundred horses and has them stationed at different tracks throughout the mid Atlantic.  He is constantly on the phone with his assistants, owners, and the racing offices.  I can't imagine he is also sitting in the grandstand at 2 minutes to post calling out bets to someone stationed in front of a computer.....it's not impossible, but seems highly unlikely.....also, there is so little liquidity, how can he get his bets on?  And, if you do want to get big money matched, you usually have to take lower prices than offered on track.

I do agree that there are a handful of shrewd trainers....If Rick Dutrow says his horse is going to run huge, it will run huge.

what about the competition, or the pace, or the track bias, or the odds?....no need to consider those things, right?....just scribble down the winners on a napkin, hand it off to your assistant then call for a bank transfer at the end of the week.  Must be nice!!

What money there has been in here today (Woodbine). THEY have been most effective in getting it.

theres more money matched on the swedish floorball matches than woodbine
