I have read your posts on the US forum last night and also on todays UK forum and am concerned about some of your comments You have been on Betfair for the last 8 years and claim to have lost in excess of £40k over the period , including £10k in the last week ! Most of us have had a very sharp and painful learning curve on here, myself included.Take some time away from here, either go on holiday or exclude yourself for a short time from the site and analyse what you are doing My feeling from your posts are you are massively overstaking in relation to your bank or getting greedy when you are doing well, only to lose it all
Think about this You are here nearly every day from what i can see You have been here 8 years, and lost £40k That is £5k pa
There are approx 40 races per day x 300 days per year (allowing for breaks and holidays) which is 12000 races pa at £3.50 profit per race (net of commission) You will have your money back within 12 months
Not exacty rocket science but shows you dont have to bet big to win big
Whatever you decide I wish you well for the future
my bets today as follows use £10k bank to average min £10 profit average per race Never use more than 1% of my bank as liability

I used to go upto 5% on my naps and big bets in the past
I have revised my staking plan and style of betting slightly in the last year or so, as with a young family now,I cannot take the risks that i did a few years ago, when free and single ! Usually i will lay 1 horse (either fav or 2nd fav) and have a small bet on another at big odds.Or just play back or lay in the place market Max liability is 1% on any bet
Aim is to make £10 per race profit on average
Not something for everyone but suits me GL

Horts - Thanks for the comments. I took some risks to get that bank upto where it was but the intention was to then stick to laying and only backing what i thought were strong selections. The US racing did me a favour on Sunday night but ultimately when i look at my US bets they are destroying my UK/Irish ones. For some reason the US racing lulls you into thinking there are ony 1 or two serious rivals in each race but as we know that is not often enough the case.
On Monday and tuesday i was doing very well with my lays staking to a liabilty of about 5% of the bank. I should have stuck to the gameplan and kept the laptop off after the uk stuff finished. Deep down i know caution is the better way to go if i have to bet and like you i have a young family which is adding further pressure to my finanaces and state of mind. When i was on my own i just angry and moved on but now a big loss causes incredible guilt. I'm in no mans land at the mo. If i give up i'll never get anything back but if i can really be cautious i know i can win some if not all back over a longer period.
