how can she do any more.as soon as horse wins a few big ones here packed off to stud.if the connections of sea the stars were really interested in the racing public they would have run him again at 4..his owner has more money than he could spend in 50 lifetimes yet pack him off to stud before he even reaches maturity.zenyatta now 6 y.o. unbeaten in 15 races. You certainly cannot put sea the stars in the same league.neither can you put the connections in the same league.
Report Brownes Gazette would have won April 12, 2010 8:54 AM BST
Zenyatta's style of racing dictates that she'll never win by a street. She only takes the lead inside the last firlong/half a furlong and as soon as she hits the front her big ears flap forward and she just crusies to the line. Therefore beating Twice Over 2 lengths is irrelevent; fact is, if there was another horse 10 lengths ahead of that she'd pick that up too.

It is laughable that you could have RVW beating her after she gave him a 20 length start and a 30 length beating. Tell you what; keep laying her and I'll keep backing her. When she does call it a day at the end of this season, another BC Classic in the bag, I know who'll be better off.

Report Brownes Gazette would have won April 13, 2010 10:16 AM BST
I don't doubt that Zenyatta is beating trees, infact I have always considered RVW to be a bit of a dodgepot. But beat them she has, 100% of the time, and you can do no more than that.

Infact, the same can be said of Sea The Stars in that he beat the same mules (RVW and the other O'Brien one pacer who was murdered at the BC) many times. Much the same as Zenyatta though, you can't fault Sea The Stars for this.

All you can do is run in the most valuable races and if the oppo fails to show who can you level the blame at? The horse that keeps winning or the guys that fail to show?
Report Anaglogs Daughter April 13, 2010 11:20 PM BST
Trainer John Shirreffs will recommend that brilliant American filly Zenyatta is sent to last years all-conquering Irish colt Sea The Stars when her racing career finishes this season.

While Ascots ambitious attempt to woo her to their Royal meeting in June is doomed, the chances of her following Arc winner Zarkava to a mating with the colt, who won six Group Ones last season when trained by John Oxx, are much better.

wavingatbuses is just one other SAD old Pr. ick who has never backed the mighty, the great, the fantastic Ms Zenyatta - these knobs who have probably layed it time and time again and lost think that by knocking her (and the legions who back her) it will help lessen their complete stupidity and ignorance of horse racing in general and in particular in the US.
I have witnessed the great lady win at Santa Anita two years on the trot - she truly is a living legend - and more to the point she can only beat who ever is put in front of her - that she does with consummate ease - she will retire undefeated at the end of this year - my real worry is that she is a true freak of nature and may be infertile (possibly why the Moss's choose to keep racing her?).

Ultimately Zenyatta will turn up again at the Breeders Cup Classic.....that is where all the top ones should be testing their metal. Granted, it is at the end of a long season for the Europeans, but an even longer one for Zenyatta. This is where the best of the best will prove themselves....at least hopefully. I firmly believe whoever turns up Zenyatta will just mow them doen.

This cautious approach cost her horse of the year last year. Winning on BC day is not enough. Plain and simple, she has to show up against males on dirt and beat them. Which means she has to show up at Saratoga in the summer or Belmont in the fall. Her connections know that and are trying to keep her fresh until then hence the decision to avoid taking on males in the Stephen Foster this early in the racing year. Only time will prove if they've chosen the right path. One thing is clear though, she can skirt the question for only so long.

she has it all to prove!!winning the bcc yes it was a good performance but even that race wasnt that strong, the best european horse never travelled on the ground and twice over is a a g1 horse only in name, hes just not that good, but yes she beat him!!why are connections contesting these micky mouse handicaps where she get s weight from inferior horses, look at her sp's ffs!!again TAPTAM who is TAPTAM, look at that horses form, and that was a G1 what a joke!!she should be contesting in races with the best horses in the country everytime she races, WHY FACE FAR INFERIOR HORSES ALL THE TIME?

again i think shes a fantastic mare never beaten, its remarkable but personally i feel her connections are always lookin to take the easy route!when is she gonna race the best on dirt?turf? the BCC is not the PINNACLE achievement for a horse, its a new competition for gods sake, europeans treat it as an after thought!!and its always gonna be more difficult for europeans having to travel and race on a different surface than what they are normally used to, re rip van winkle!!!eitherway way, thats the trainers decision to run there!!its about time zenyatta face some decent horses instead of geeting weight from inferior ones!!!level weights against good horses, is that too much to ask?

Report MickInGoldersGreen April 29, 2010 8:31 AM BST
More sh1te from wavingatbuses.......He is telling us that AoB sends his horses as an after-thought to the BC.......as do the connections of Goldikova (Head and Wertheimer penciled the BC as the principal target for last year and it is this year's main goal too) - how about Stoute/Conduit, just another after-thought two years on the trot? John Gosden, Noseda and Meehan send out their runners 'cos they are bored and want a sunny break in California...???

The reason many trainers from europe haven't gone in the past is 'DIRT' - our horses find too more difficult to adapt to this - Santa Anita's pro-ride surface neutralised the disadvantage felt by many european trainers so they went. They will in all likelihood not be rushing back this year since it is back on traditional dirt at CD - though it will be interesting to see what develops.

AoB has for many years sent his top horses with little success - think jo'burg was his last winner? He has also lost one or two (fatalities) on the dirt - 2007 at monmouth I believe he lost one?

So since there is too much at stake here it cant possibly be an after thought - these guys are at the top of their game and don't take gambles with their charges - they are very well measured plans/considerations.
Report markeypd April 29, 2010 1:36 PM BST
could not agree with you more, Mick. One other thing I would add is that people tend to complain about 'lasix'. or just more vaguely 'drugs' when they discuss our North American racing - but what they fail to acknowledge is that RVW, Mastercraftsman, Goldikova - et al - also use lasix when they are here. No disadvantage. There was a French filly - Choc Ice - that a trainer sent here (Fabre??) to Canada.... Could not beat listed company in France..... was running against some of the best Euros in the EP Taylor at Woodbine. Was 38-1, and looked to have no chance...... I looked at the form, and realized it had been 'bleeding' in France, and Fabre had enlsited here in the lasix program for the race I lumped on, and it won by 4 lengths at 38-1.

No one said she's not a great runner.

BUT

If she's to lay claim the honor of the best distaff ever (I won't even dignify the claim by some of her fans that she's the best ever period by discussing it because I think it's ridiculous) she has to do more than win over a bad bunch of fillies and mares over a synthetic surface....again.....and again...and again. Not wanting to take anything away from her BC win but it was over a synthetic surface beating over the top euros and a Gio Ponti more suited to grass and about 1/8 mile shorter trip.

She has to beat handicap horses on dirt. And she's gotta go find them at Saratoga or Belmont. End of story.

im refering to taptam because you would think at this stage in her career she would be contesting in races that a full of proven group form, not only is taptam not a group horse but a maiden at that, and that was her most recent race!!the thing with STS is that not only did he contest the best G1 races in europe and win every one of them, almost every other horse in behind him had won other G1's that he didnt contest in thus upholding the form!!even horses finishing 20L back won group races!!id be disapointed if he decided to take on inferior opposition after winning the guineas or the derby because its important to see how good he really is!!thats my point with Zenyatta, shes obviously very good, its just so disappointing shes contesting in races where she is such a short price fav and theres nothing in the field that can remotely give her a race!! where are all the good horses??

Calling Ilikewavingatbuses......you must have been impressed by that yesterday. Don't start crabbing the form saying the runner up was just an all-weather horse in the UK, it has improved out of all recognition as demonstrated by its US form. Sorry, to be clear, her win was good, timed to perfection and 17/17 is fantastic...but if another horse steals a march, she may not have the uummmppphhhhh to catch it next time.

Anyone agree/disagree?
Report ilikewavingatbuses June 15, 2010 2:11 AM BST
brownes i never said she wasnt a fantastic mere!!any horse that can go through its entire life racing other horses and remain unbeaten is extremely rare!!i applaud her consistency!!

HOWEVER Grin and im not saying this as a kind of european horses are better than american because i dont think that at all, i just find in zenyattas case, the word great is thrown around alot, best ever mere etc...but imo i feel she still has to go on to the next level! i always judge a horse by what its beat and what those horses have achieved (like most no doubt)..i kno she beat rvw and the rest in the BCC but rvw beat twice over 16L in the eclipse so i cant accept in that instance that she beat a rvw that ran to his true form, hw could it be the same rvw??if he'd had finished 1L behind after appearing to run his race i would have been far more satisfied and then accepted the result!!

on form she beat the no 1 turf horse in the us (imo) in gio ponti and twice over who appeared to run his race, possibly career best, and imo thats just not great form judging by what they have done in their lives!i know she'll never streak away and win by half the track but i thought she made hard work of that last night, mike gave her many back handers in the final straight and she definitely needed every one of them , it was pleasing she got by at the line but she did open at 1/5 fav over there so thats the least you'd expect surely?? and lets face it, st trinians has obviously improved but the horse isnt a world beater by any means, i kno she was getting weight but still....!

i just feel if u look back at all of zenyattas races, how many TRULY BRILLIANT horses has she  beat? imo not many!

im delighted she won and was a pretty decent price on here b4 the off, suprisingly was about 1.70 just b4 the off!i kno rachels connections backed down and theres nothing she can do about that, i just feel she has more to prove against the boys and i wanna see her beat quality rd who imo is prob the most exciting  horse in america at the moment!i dont think im being unreasonable wanting to see her face the absolute best horses that are available to race because if rvw or sts or any other european was doing the same id be critising them too!!

as said i dont crab her performances, i think shes brilliant to have won 17/17 what more can she do but win whats in front of her, i just feel she beats poor horses far too often and i just want to see her truly tested thats all!!i mean the 'best ever' is thrown around on a regular basis and yet shes not even facing the best horses in her own country! (i was TRYING  to be nice and have a civilised debate thereGrin )
