this obnoxious little apology for a decent human being ( aka menelaus) coming on here and p!ssing from great heights on all and sundry. I believe Tom Wolfe calls it " the monkey p!ss ".
Now there is absolutely no doubt that he is well schooled in pure economic theory from no less than LSE. Let's give him that. He knows far more about theoretical economics than I will ever know. I can admit that. It doesn't hurt at all.
But I have been racking my brains for quite a while trying to put a finger on what he lacks. And it was right before my eyes.
He is totally lacking in imagination. He is totally unable to think outside the little box of theory he has built carefully piece by piece over the years. I would hazard a guess that he can't even imagine alternative outcomes to the one he repeats on here ad nauseam. Note I said one.
I think the icy stares he refers to getting from various captains of industry were more of the variety of " get out of my space you over theorizing one eyed dipstick" rather than the " gee how can I hire this genius".
Take my personal story. I came across a situation where various high paid design firms had been analysing a particular problem for many years at great expense to all companies involved ( except the design firms of course ). I came along and with a little bit of imagination and quite a bit of luck ( which you need btw in ever getting any patent commercially exploited) solved the problem, patented the solution and the rest is history as they say. The patent to this day is still standing up after many challenges in high courts around the world, as is the norm in such situations.
The point being that the so-called experts couldn't see the wood for the trees.
I live in a tax ghaven and I am surrounded by people who you would not call intellectuals by any definition of the term, but they are mostly all very rich and very successful.
They all share one characteristic. They are imaginative and don't accept the claim that Menelaus makes that all economic development and success can be boiled down to a set of irrefutable algorithms or figures on a chart.
He's so wrong on that, I can't emphasise it enough.
Why don't a few others of you stand up to him on here ( it's pretty much just EO and me thses days). A lot of you are probably much smarter and richer than him, truth be told. But you're also clearly much more modest ( not that that would take much to be).
Tell us a few of your personal success stories and educate this pr!ck Menelaus that his way is not the only way and more critically is probasbly the wrong way.

Melly reminds me of when I was a young man and I used to go into the bookies and watch all the players throwing their money around. The more skin they had in the game the more irrational they could be regarding the logic of their bet. Once the money was down they would brook no argument as to the logic of their selection. If someone did so it was like a challenge to their manhood. Melly seems to have a lot of skin in the game and is consequently very irrational.

You probably answered your question. Because they are smart and rich they probably have much better things to do than argue with a myopic idiot plucking a banjo with only one string. Probably because I'm a sick puppy and have a lot of time on my hands I do love to take a pair of scissors to that string just to imagine his face. He never lets me down. What a miserable low life he is really. Btw I'm even starting to question how much skin he really has in the game. Not that it is all that relevant really, but it might just be a part of a whole pattern of self deception. Same sort of reason.
Too much free time on my hands. Also I'm on here a lot anyway, as my sports betting techniques are totally manual ( being of the dinosaur age when it comes to writing computer softare and the like). So I jump over here regularly jut for a bit of r&r. And needless to say that's not rock'n roll. |
