There are reasons for a run on the Dollar and the Euro, I would place Sterling firmly behind that pair in the pecking order.

i cant imagine why sterling is going down the toilet with base rates at a massive 0.5% (probably for the next 50 years)

So are the rest Sir Denis, the FED base rate down to zero in fact for an "extended period" Bernanke can't even define. The ECB is holding a lot of PIIGS paper that sooner or later must take a pretty serious haircut (in other words, they are insolvent unless they print money which their charter doesn't even allow). So what gives?

For the answers about what is happening to the pound, look to the BoE's "more QE" trial balloons through Paul Fisher. It's a bank balance implosion they are concerned about yet again, not jobs and the productive economy.
