another explosion, nikki now down 1200 points.Taking profits here. Bad situation for Japan. incredible trade to be in on.

pdate-- nikki futures hits a low of 8000 during the maket closed lunch time. Market re opens and maket trades down 1380 points to 8100 ish.
Rebound now happening at 8380.Almost 400 points off the low , but still down 1230 points. The most incredible trading day since the GFC. Im out, but should one go long? Short the bounce? How could the maket possible recover? Is the fall just toooooo big? Forget it, I'm staying out, its a coin toss as nuclear stories abound every 5 minutes. Radiation hits tokyo. Good luck to all |
|
By:
update. Nikki now 8567.Reports that radiation is not high enough in the air to affect tokyo. Panic appears to be still high but lessening.
Various economists stating that ex the nuclear issues econoomic effects are not as big as being toute due to the 1700+ companies are spread throughout japan. Dow futures are off 275.Have bought some. |

Those undervalued solars had a good day, the likes of LDK, Trina and Jinko up around 8 percent. Also LNGs did well, eg Golar up 9 percent.
I'll be looking for some discounted stocks later in the week in other sectors. Hopefully the aftershocks won't be to bad and the nuclear situation improves so Japan can get on with recovery. |

Yeah, I know what you mean, "discounted"
. Some of the BTFD crowd who rely on continued CB intervention to lift the markets, will soon find out that there is such a thing a buying a dip too far. The market can be a heartless b@#tch sometimes when she meets a black swan. It looks to me that she just made a black one also coated in ultra thick black tar.The "hopefully" the "nuclear situation improves" would make more sense if it didn't have the word "nuclear" as part of it. Things will get worse, a lot worse, not better. |

There were plenty of people yesterday claiming it was now a good time to buy japanese stocks. Are these people for real? It is like trying to catch a falling knife atm. Thankfully these clowns got absolutely slaughtered last night.
Comparing it to the kobe quake in jan '95, which had a 8% sell off that week, and a further 17% sell off till july - this quake is much worse, more destruction, and threat of a nuclear meltdown. Going from the price at the moment the earthquake struck, it touched at a 22% sell off last night (currently at 8,400). Really, if Kobe, which came at a time that the JP economy was stronger, caused a sell off of that amount, you can expect a much greater one for this quake, at a time when the economy is weak and the nation overloaded with debt. Furthermore, unlike last time, where nick leeson was propping up the NIKKEI all by himself ![]() , there isn't a single buyer this time. Some stocks are going untraded all day because not a single person want's to buy. There was only a bit of a rally last night because they pulled the plug, and then raised the margins, so people had to start covering.Without meltdown - 7000 With meltdown - well, it is going into complete freefall. Might even touch 5000. |

enjoy your money whippett.
You must be proud to have been at the head of the queue, so a nuclear meltdown suits your position best, |

gb, LDK close to their 52wk high, 20 percent gain in the last 2 days mostly on the Japan reaction, not sure how much further so don't hold too long. Solar probably the best of the green options at the moment and factors like oil to consider, could be a long term stock but still a lot of uncertainty.

Nuclear threat worsening, another quake measuring 6.5 has also hit yet the market bounces! I am not getting involved but surely some serious money can be made by shortening the bounce?

Wish i had been sharp enough to get on it, oh well least i can take the moral high ground now as I didn't profit. I don't know which way the wind is blowing right now, but if the wind blows nuclear into tokyo then will be looking at nikkei 0000. I'm looking at weather reports and from what i gather this evening the wind should be blowing south into Tokyo.

I remember reading in several places during the last crash that many people had borrowed billions off Japan due to low interest rates and lent to higher interest rate countries such as Iceland.
Have all those debts been paid off or could Japan sill recall all those outstanding debts? |

sorry, lent should have read invested

looking at the Dow/Nasdaq between 11th and 22nd, a nice even "V" shape, bottoming out on Wednesday PM at around -3 percent.
mostly sold out of Japan related short term US trades, bought AAPL in increments starting below 330, the shares have sell limits starting from 355 and up, the derivatives I'll probably hold until near expiry. |
