Presuming they can produce 15,000 gallons per acre per year, it seems pretty viable. Based on current world oil usage of 80 million barrels a day. By my calculation you would need 300,000 km^2 of land to produce that amount (ok, that is half the size of texas, but still), or is my calculation wrong? Would certainly be viable as a part replacement for oil.

Well theres 35 gallons to a barrel so thats 2800 million gallons a day and this fuel can produce 41 gallons per acre per day, so to replace oil you would need 68,292682 acres or 276370 km 2 - so yes Whippet, you're right!! They will be able to replant the rainforests when they've done clearing those! I suppose at some point, some time there is going to have to be another fuel, maybe not in our lifetimes but it will have to happen, oil supplies are only going one way. I just hope to be in the company that does it.
