There isn't anywhere that's 100% safe. It would be wise to divide it up in a number of investment types. Your best bet might be seeking professional advice. A Gold related investment should be included in your portfolio. Dividend paying shares are another one to consider (e.g. UU and/or GSK) Asian funds is another. Oil is another one to consider.
Something I have been thinking about recently is Asian currency. You'd assume relative to Euro/dollar/pound the Asian currencies would do well over time. Whether you get stuffed on the conversion is certainly something to explore. |

are you looking to preserve or invest?
a safe low yield investment in an inflationary situation may seem safe but equates to a loss. there's plenty of other options, US tech stocks, high yield Australasian shares, or even property/business/lifestyle investments which will at least give you something tangible or even enjoyable for your money. if you believe the western world will collapse then get a tin foil hat, a stack of gold bullion and hide in a damp cellar. |

You mean like those professionals who invested in sub-prime mortgage backed securities? A Gold related investment should be included in your portfolio. Invest in physical gold, not a "gold related investment". The former is a wealth preserver, the latter is paper and about worth as much in a financial meltdown scenario. You'd assume relative to Euro/dollar/pound the Asian currencies would do well over time. If the USD collapses, the whole fiat enchilada goes down with it. This is fiat currency race to the bottom and Asian currencies will not be immune. Bottom line: The way events are unfolding now, with the FED Chairman last evening announcing to the world that even more rounds of QE may be necessary, it's fast becoming obvious physical gold is just about the only place to be. The problem you have is that others have woken up to this fact a lot earlier. Getting in at $1,400 is risky if the deflationary depressions forced on the Greek, Irish and soon Portuguese and Spanish economies gather momentum, commodities, oil and gold will face downward pressure. On the other hand, there's something to be said of a "buy it when you can find" approach as well. |

Stow_judge, I'm still waiting for your first intelligent and meaningful post on this forum.
Something tells me that it is going to be a LONG wait. |

Stow_judge, the original poster asked for advice. Your response was seriously infected with the kind of advice that could make someone go skint real fast.
I corrected it. If you find that a "know it all" attitude or a "condescending" response then you are missing the big picture. But then again, why doesn't that really surprise me.......... |

That must be shocking advice, perhaps we should put everything into Gold like you suggested It would be wise to divide it up in a number of investment types. See 1st point Your best bet might be seeking professional advice. Perhaps we would be better getting advice from some anonymous poster on here, a keboard warrior like you, sitting in their underpants. Next time I have a toothache, I shall not bother with a dentist, we'll see what you think. A Gold related investment should be included in your portfolio. Now I could have sworn that physical gold was a gold related investment. More desperate advice. Agsin, you appear to think you know best Dividend paying shares are another one to consider (e.g. UU and/or GSK) Asian funds is another. Oil is another one to consider These strong reliable companies paying decent dividends are yet more shocking advice, according to you Asian funds This debt laden slow growing area of the world is yet more appalling advice, according to youYou should read some of your posts and smell some of the sh1t you are shovelling |

physical gold surely the commodity for paranoid metal patients, not sayin it's a bad investment, as there seems to be a lot of them about these days.

f&f, im in the same boat and tryin to gather as much info as possible - if the event happens it will prob be obvious afterwards where we "SHOULD" have been invested and there'll be plenty of people saying things like "how could you not have known that X, Y, or Z was going to be the safest place for your cash"
But nobody seems to be able to say with much certainty where X Y or Z is now! Other threads you may already have seen are linked below, the 2nd one suggests Keytrade Bank in Luxemburg/Belgium where other irish people seem to have opened accounts. Let us know any other info you may have http://www.askaboutmoney.com/showthread.php?t=147898 http://www.askaboutmoney.com/showthread.php?t=147480 |
