Having read in the Betfair prospectus about LMAX I was excited. Their plan and the thinking behind it seems solid and they have serious liquidity providers lined up + the required licencing to do so.
I just signed up for an account and everything seems pretty straightforward tough there were no prices displayed presumably because its a sunday (tho depsoiting funds was also a no no so perhaps they are not yet fully live.)
If this goes well it could be absolutely enormous for BF which owns 72.5% of the LMAX business. I will watch with interest..
Only indices and forex markets to trade at the moment.Commodities and stocks are a way off yet being available to trade. My main concern though is this, If you ask to trade a price that is not available ,example buy FTSE at 5700 when its trading 5701-5702 my impressions are the trade will only ever get matched AUTOMATICALLY by the sites liquidity provider when the market turns.Inevitably therefore the only trade you get is when its not wanted and therefore frankly dont see a future for the idea. Its a bit like waiting to get picked off on the inrunning markets. As this idea is the key promotional catch to get new users I suspect it wont take long for dissatisfied users to revert back to their current provider. Time will tell..

this may seem like a very naive question but as a non-financial punter (albeit with a tradefair a/c) can someone explain how LMAX differs from tradefair?

i think LMAX has 3rd party market makers and IG group ,CMC or tradefair keep your trades
i guess LMAx is more like betfair exchange model and IG and tradefair is more like a bookmakers...if you make to much from IG index , they will start to f-ck you around

no...tradefair, not even really betfair, it just a skin of Capital Spreads ,,,which betfair would be getting a fee or % of profit...all the manging of risk is going to Capital Spreads
