or can be beaten into a thin sheet of that size according to Wiki.  I knew it was the most malleable element, but a gram of Gold is a pretty small lump of stuff.  One gram of Gold grain looks like just three or four breadcrumbs, so that's pretty amazing you can beat it into a square metre.

Most likely 1 m^2 of gold leaf, which is a very very thin sheet, would probably disintegrate in your hand.

Think I'll just stick to Sovereigns.
