The Fed make it plain that interest rates will remain low while they print ever increasing amounts of money.
Disappointed investors at low interest rates see the Dow moving up which stimulates their appetite for risk so they buy, moving the market higher. This leads to cries of "recovery" which leads to more buying, which leads to a bubble.
I suspect that this kind of behaviour is jerking gold higher too.
