Ten eliminated from Singles on Day 1 (six in straight sets) at £80,000 a go, although I am told the two that didn't actually get oncourt only receive a miserly £40k for their trouble.
That's good business by anyone's definition.

An truly outstanding effort, worth every penny of that £80,000 first round loss prize. |

One man who would not settle for a dismal first round exit. He should get every penny that the underachievers trousered in Week One. A quite magnificent, once in a generation, run to the semi finals. Round after round defeating higher-ranked, far more experienced talents. Staggering scenes. |
