This will be used to chart Mirra Andreeva's relentless march towards inevitable grand slam glory, you could see the talent from the get go, suffice to say this will probably be a short lived thread with her first major already on the horizon. A good start to the year already, handing Kostyuk a charitable place in the Brisbane International Semi finals, doing her bit to show solidarity with Ukraine in the face of Putin back in the motherland. She then went on to win Adelaide beating fellow future star in the making, Mboko in the final.

We're here in Australia the first slam of the year and that's when charity begins at home, no more freebies, Mirra has begun Round 1 seeing off dangerous floater Donna Kebab Vekic in her bright banana yellow dress, next up Sakkari on Safari. It is a fairly difficult draw it has to be said, Vekic>Sakkari>Ruse>Svitolina/Shnaider>Gauff/Muchova>Sabalenka>Anisimova/Rybakina/Swiatek, but Indian Wells last year was equally as difficult albeit a round less with the bye, it's the most prestigious masters on the calendar and she won beating Tauson>Ryba>Svitolina>Swiatek>Saba, along with sitting duck Gracheva the believer.

She's currently 14's with the bookies.

Kind Regards.

how many slams total we going with for Mirra? 14? 15? 24?
Report Journeyman January 20, 2026 10:26 PM GMT
She should get to the semis at least assuming she doesn't get upset by the home support given to Australia's favourite imported player

Mirra also has a great chance of swerving Sabalenka. Mboko is probably ready to take down one of the elite (and there's an outside chance Raducanu shocks Aryna early having come close before) A Mirra/Mboko rematch so soon after Adelaide would be intriguing
Report wisewords January 20, 2026 10:41 PM GMT
Jm do you think when Mirra wins her first the dam will burst and she'll win everything for years????
Report Journeyman January 21, 2026 12:11 AM GMT
At the moment I think it will be a tripod of Mirra, Mboko and Tery fighting it out for slams

I think more like 4-6 realistically. But could make several more finals.

The days of Serena type numbers are over, Iga I think could reach 10-12, which would put a level about your Henin's and Venus's, probably just winning Roland Garros's alone, though she's won on all 3 surfaces now.

The thing is you never really know who is coming up either, we always sort of look at projections for the future via the prism of recency bias. One minute there's no Alcaraz, the next minute he's on course to win 30 slams.

Kind Regards.

^ days of Serena numbers over in WTA
Alive and kicking in ATP.

It's not like Sabalenka, Iga and Coco are old. None of them have shown signs of being injury prone so they could easily be around and contend for majors for the next 8-12 years. And noone ever knows what 13 year old prodigies are out there.

ruins the sweet girl image a little bit, but shows she has some bite as well and is mentally tough, wouldn't want someone crying because the crowd were being mean to her.

Interesting when she was pressed about whether she'd play for another country she confirmed no she wouldn't, backing up the Russian Tennis Federation's confidence that it 'simply wouldn't happen'

'Many players have switched, but I’m going to keep playing as I am, I haven’t had any offers or anything like that, so for now, I’ll continue as is. It doesn’t bring any extra pressure for me; I’m just doing my thing on the court
Report wisewords January 25, 2026 3:11 AM GMT
she only spoke about it because she was pressed. seemed pretty obvious to me because she would have changed to France by now if there was any intention of doing so
Report TheCarambaExperience January 25, 2026 8:48 AM GMT
I haven't heard the whole thing, but the quote from above doesn't sound like a strong no to me.

I'm not sure what the eligibility for playing the Olympics is, but if she was to do this now it might jeopardize her 2028 start. So doing a switch just after the Olympics might be better.

You also never know which one of the Russians secretly loves Putin.

Mirra Mirra on the wall
Is it in round 3 or round 4 that I will fall?
Report mesmerised January 25, 2026 12:53 PM GMT
I didn't factor in she'd meet Elina who's Ukrainian who extra motivated to beat the Russian, that's my excuse anyway.
Oh Well, I'll dust the cobwebs off of this thread in 4 months time at the French.

No shame in losing to Svitolina who is surely the best womens player to never reach a slam final
Report mesmerised January 25, 2026 8:00 PM GMT
off the top of my head, that's probably true, she had a good record against top players of calibre too, Halep, Barty, Kerber, multi slam winners.

best player to actually reach a slam final but never win one, was probably Radwanska.
Report TheCarambaExperience January 25, 2026 8:08 PM GMT
best player to reach a final/never win a Slam is Dementieva.
Report TheCarambaExperience January 25, 2026 8:13 PM GMT
maybe Wendy Turnbull. Before my time, but 4 finals, 4 semifinals. Best ranking world no 3 back when the top 2 spots were always held by Evert and Navratilova.
Report TheCarambaExperience January 25, 2026 8:14 PM GMT
sorry 3 finals.
Report mesmerised January 25, 2026 8:28 PM GMT
not much in it statistically though Aga edges it, they both reached 12+ quarters in slams, though Elena reached 3 more semis and 1 more slam final. Aga reached peak number 2 in the world, Dementieva 3. Agnieszka won 20 career finals, Dementieva 16. Aga won the bigger titles, WTA finals and a couple more 1000 events, though Dementieva won the Olympics though imo it's the next most prestigious tournament to win, it has been filed under a 500 event at times when it was ranked.

those just the numbers though, saw all of Aga's career, saw maybe half of the Russians when I was more passive watching, hard pressed to find more talented players than the Pole though, what she lacked in power she made up for in skill.
Report TheCarambaExperience January 25, 2026 8:32 PM GMT
as for Svito being the best to never reach a final, I was thinking there's got to be better. But maybe not, other contenders are Bencic, Petrova, Hantuchova but I would rank Svitolina above them.
Report mesmerised January 25, 2026 8:38 PM GMT
Sorana obviously
