I too was really disappointed by the crowd reaction toward Azarenka she done nothing wrong. She even put her hand up as a gesture of farewell to Svitolina. In my opinion there should be no bad treatment regardless of what going in the world went it comes to sport. Don't get personal Azarenka is a fellow tennis player who know each other for years.

Like at RG, the centre crowd court is just full of people who don't know what's going on, don't follow tennis, and will simply boo the "bad loser" who lost and didn't shake hands.

Svitolina said before the match she wasnt going to shake her hand, so it was her that made the call, not Azarenka

Well yes, that's been the much publicised policy of all Ukrainian players for many months now, including at Roland Garros a few weeks ago, but relatively large parts of centre court crowds at majors simply are very casual followers who are not aware of the Ukrainians' decision.

At RG they booed Kostyuk after having had lost to Sabalenka, Kasatkina after having had lost to Svitolina and Svitolina after having had lost to Sabalenka (who demonstrably stood at the net to show up Svitolina)

Azarenka was asked if she’s ‘the victim’ after crowd booed her against Elina Svitolina:
“Victim? Victim that someone didn’t shake my hand? Oh, please. She doesn’t want to shake hands with Russian & Belarusians. I respected her decision. What should I have done. Stayed & waited?” |
|
By:
Its just so stupid isnt it, its not any of the players fault their countries are at war, as tornado said
|
|
By:
No, I don't think it's stupid. Neither does Azarenka apparently, and nor does Kasatkina who probably can't go back home to Russia for quite a while.

I think the problem is they don't consume much media. If they had, they would have known why Ukrainians aren't shaking hands with BLR/RUS players as it has been explained there.
|

By:
And that Vika walking straight to her chair was because she respects this decision/knows there wouldn't be a handshake from Svitolina, and NOT a sign of being a poor loser like the uninformed crowd thought.
