Tennis players blacklisted by Betfair

I see Gaba's match is on the exchange today. So a mistake today, a mistake yesterday (his 1st rd match wasn't offered) or do they just don't offer 1st round matches involving him?

Back to not offering Gaba tomorrow it seems (they've put up markets for all other 3rd round matches where match-ups are known).

You may be reading too much in to this, beware of confirmation bias.
Missing matches may simply be due to incompetence.

I'm leaning towards offering him today was due to incompetence. Not offering three of his matches in the span of a week can not be a coincidence. Anyway, I have emailed them to hear what they have to say on the matter.

Possibly, let us know what they say.

I noticed something like this at the back end of 2018 at the Futures. I think it was at the Dominican Republic Futures. There was one player whose matches were always missing, but since I'm not entirely sure who it was, I'd rather not just say a name of who I think it likely was. It did look curious to me and I was thinking to myself if Betfair had blacklisted his matches.

Gaba won today and is now in the QF of the Challenger tournament in Manerbio. It did intrigue me how a former world no 43 is now hovering around at ~400 in the rankings so I looked up his results for the recent year. What's been going on, has he been injured a lot? It turns out he has actually played a full year (70 matches) since August 2018, won more than he has lost, but not made any big runs in tournaments (QF here and there are his best results), and only picked up a few points here and there and therefore not climbed the rankings. Record over this timeframe is 40 wins 30 losses. Hasn't played any top 100 players. Against the top 200 he is 4-1, so he is better than his ranking suggests. That being said, he's far away from the main tour and Slams so Betfair most likely doesn't need to worry about him showing up there anytime soon.
No word from Betfair yet btw.

Maybe they have his phone tapped and knows if he's gonna fix or not on that particular day.

Because all their other matches were offered this week. Well, with the exception of Berrettini because he only had that one match against Gaba.

They also must have high thoughts of Gaba's fixing skills if they thought he was gonna be able to organise something in the two hours between his 1st and 2nd match today.

After not getting any response from Betfair I asked again, and this time I did get a response.
Unfortunately, it was completely useless.

Hello. What is Betfair’s policy regarding offering tennis matches on the exchange involving Teymuraz Gabashvili? I have noticed they are often not, presumably because of match fixing suspicions. For instance this week, his R1 match was not offered, his R2 match wasn’t and looking at schedule tomorrow it seems his R3 match tomorrow won’t be. So what gives?
And are there other players whose matches will not be offered on the exchange?

Well that’s a little disappointing. I was hoping for a more useful answer than that, especially after having waited two days for it, especially from VIP customer service. I wasn’t really asking for an explanation either, I was asking what the policy on offering his matches is, since Betfair offers some of his matches, but not others, and it would be helpful to know.
But since you have not offered 3 out of his 4 matches this week, I will assume that you have blacklisted him then, and that the one match offered was a mistake.
I am also not complaining about this. In fact I think it’s even commendable that you sacrifice some revenue in form of commission if you do it in order to protect the integrity of the sport and to protect customers from placing money on markets that might not be on the up and up. I just wish you could communicate what you are doing in a better way instead of giving vague replies like the ones you just gave me.

BF: While I do completely understand where you're coming from, unfortunately as I stated, it does depend on the Traders, we are unable to provide any further information as to why or why not we do not offer specific markets or games.
I do sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused, especially for the vague reply, however unfortunately there's not much further we can tell you.

What is the purpose of this service if you can not answer questions? Rather than customer asking something and you saying "We don't know. It's a decision made by the traders", a more sensible approach would be that if customer asks something that only traders would know the answer to, you take the question, you then ask the traders, and once you have heard from them, you reply to the customer with this information if possible. When you don't give answers, customers will have to make assumptions and guesses and those might not be correct.

I can see why you don’t want to say why, I really don’t see why you can’t confirm that you are not offering his matches though. But based on recent evidence I will have to assume that that is the case and that the one match offered involving him this week was a mistake.

Also, this comment stood out for me "Please note that it is up to the Traders' discretion which markets are offered". I am asking about the exchange and they mention traders? Probably just a case of misunderstanding/cluelessness from helpdesk person. If not, it sounds like admitting they have traders working the exchange.

oh no. Match was listed earlier. So I would think all matches are put on the exchange by default, then when someone remembers to check the blacklist Gaba's matches is taken away. Or it's up to trader if they want to keep it or not. All we can do is speculate since they won't give us an answer.

so for those keeping score, last week R1 match for Gabashvili was not offered, R2 was.
for this week's tournament in L'Aquila his R1 match against Valkusz is not offered.

Don't think Nedelko is playing anything this week, he is probably on some paradise island.

bf needs to stop bullying Gabashvili.

Nedelko was registered to play the M15 in Moscow this week, but withdrew on August 1st with the reasoning of playing L'Aquila instead...where he isn't in the draw

The Chilean, 28, was interviewed by the Tennis Integrity Unit after unusual betting patterns were highlighted during matches he played in.

He repeatedly failed to hand over his mobile phone for forensic analysis.

Saez separately admitted to receiving a corrupt approach at an ITF Futures tournament, which he did not report.

That is against anti-corruption rules.

Saez is 1,082nd in the ATP world rankings, having reached 230th in September 2015.

Don't know about SIG's match as that R2 match has already been played and both of those players are now out.
