Sears is gonna get a lot of hype from BT Sport for this week, but really Kontaveit been very lucky/faced no-one. She also should have been doing much better than she is for a long time already, making a run at end of year isn't that impressive given her talent should have her doing better at bigger events.

It's more that really she should be making these sort of runs when it matters. The list of players she's beat isn't that impressive this week really, especially when a lot of circumstances have gone her way with players being injured and the like, that's what happens at the end of the year. But she should be making more noise where it matters.
What is up with how Taylor Townsend schedules.
Was just reading about this. Currently ranked 66, has been ranked in the 50s most the year though.
Has played 9 tour events, which you'd think ok, but 4 were slams, 2 were the week before foreign slams (Auckland + Eastbourne), and the other 3 US events. Other than that she just plays US ITF's, she hasn't left the US to play any events basically that aren't slams. On top of this she skipped the entire US Open series to play World Team Tennis. Who does this?

McDonald's menues and especially the soft drink sizes are too small outside of the USA.
There should actually be more rules (maybe they are doing this with those changes?) about how you can schedule at certain ranks. Given a lot of the ITF's she plays are like $25k's, and obviously she has good success at them, but should a player ranked in the 50s really be allowed to play that low.

Anisimova and Diyas top of the pile who seemingly can barely win points from winning easily earlier. Pera nearly falling into whatever the apparent trap is, and I feel like there's one I've missed that's already finished.

Not really. The top players are mostly in awful form aren't they. I was looking at Singapore race and really it's open if you do make some huge runs because there's a bunch of players around 4k (which is normally enough), who are doing stone nothing in recent weeks.
Was surprised Murray even beat Goffin tbh after what he offered previous round. Though Goffin did fly like half way around the globe in a few days to get here I guess.

Likes of Kerber, Wozniacki and Halep will try at Singapore
but with the careers of Sharapova, Serena drawing to a close, it feels like there's no big bullies in WTA anymore to control things. it's great if you're a young player coming through. you can make your mark
Depends, a lot of players are just plain finished this time of year. Some of those you mentioned, eg. Woz problems go back much longer.
Sabalenka should win tomorrow really. She can do a Garcia and make Singapore obv which is what will be needed for her.
Also a number seem to be injured or carrying something as well, which is norm just sign of spent at end of long season.
Haven't watched enough to give an opinion on whether Sabalenka or Kontaveit will win tomorrow, but Kontaveit is no slouch. Any idea what time the final is scheduled for tomorrow (UK time)?

Hard to believe that Kontaveit would be handed another victory. She was flattered to reach the final. I suspect normal service will be resumed. Huge gulf.

I don't understand what happened in Quebec - on all surrounding evidence it should have been a stroll - but Sabalenka could be the top of the lot. One things for sure she has almost single handedly turned around my tennis betting this year. She would be a massive threat in Singapore but winning back to back is probably too much to expect even from her.
