there is probably an element of truth in this, as much as the William's have won, if they were blonde and white they'd be a lot more poplular.

There's such a backstory to both the Williams sisters and Sharapova, two black sisters making it in a white sport and a Russian making the trip from Siberia to Florida at the age of 7 to make it in tennis, which helps a lot. This in compbination with them having captivating personalities on top of that makes them big stars.

They did also come at a time when simply tennis was a bigger deal though. The reality is tennis has been dwindling for years in the US even with Serena.

These American hosts are always the worst at the slams, they always seem like they're away with the fairies.

Though in Australia, the speach by the Kia sponsors after the match is the longest speech made in sports post event, remember Novak/Nadal on the verge of collapse one year because they wouldn't stop yapping.

Sue Barker does it well, concise, to the point and relatively short.

Nobody outside of the US really gives much of a s*** about NFL, it's popular in pockets, but it's not really massive anywhere else, it sells out Wembley because of the sheer number of tourists and American's there.

Eg. Novak vs Stan only did a 1.1 last year.

With Wimbledon having moved a week back recently, not a lot they can do. USO is when it is because of Labour Day weekend also (similar to how AO is during Australian holiday season).

It does suck how it clashes with NFL with the juggernaut NFL has become in America though.

What's amazing is how so few viewers in America is still insanely valuable. Like US Open is getting lowest ratings in the home country by a long way, yet the host broadcaster is paying the most for it by a long way.

Albeit I would like to see how much Wimbledon went for if it was actually up on offer, their rights go for way less than their true value to stay on BBC, however this is a vicious on circle as it staying on BBC is what keeps Wimbledon forever relevant.

Shapovalov won't be a consistent winner, but he can be up there. See him as a worst of those four too however.

London will be pretty rubbish this year, Nadal could even go out in the RR stages, he doesn't exactly have a good record there, only made 2 finals in 7 attempts.

Tickets might not even sell given some of the potential matches.

It's true, British people are the sort that would queue up to by tickets for a queue, so maybe not.

Wont know how Shapovalov's potential pans out until he starts beefing up, I quite like Karen Khachanov's chances of winning a slam. Nobody talks about him though.

Tickets will defo sell with Nadal and Federer present. What will happen is Carreno-Busta vs Cilic session tickets will be getting resold for like £7.

Tennis is still popular in London though, it would have to be spectacularly bad field to not sell. Look how Queens still does fine even if it turns to crap like this year. Most the tickets bought in advance etc., before you know who you are seeing.

Queens is in summer though and is easily accessible, O2

O2 is in cold November time and is not exactly public transport friendly.

I still expect virtually every session to be full, maybe a few crap ones in day with a few empty seats (as tennis is big in sorta bankers environment in London but obviously they go night session as they work in the day).

Talk about cold novembers in Britain.

I meant in general, not November, just when they post pics of it being like -20 on Twitter. It's never -20 here. It's pretty much never below -10 here, norm peak low is like -5.
