other thread was mugging, so I'm trying a new one.

The final Slam of the year is upon us, unfortunately with the weakest field for a Slam in forever: no Djokovic, no A Murray, no Wawrinka, no Raonic, no Nishikori, no Serena, no Azarenka and no Zvonareva. At least Sharapova is back, so that's something and maybe USTA can still get some tickets sold. On a positive note, all the withdrawals leave room for some young players to step up, which is badly needed especially on the men's side. It's very likely we get a new women's no. 1 since Ka Pliskova is defending a final here from last year. Weather forecast for this event is promising.

Because Keys isn't that good against backboards.

Who did she do that against exactly? Against Kanepi and CoCo who are slow big hitters, perfect match ups for Keys.

I really don't know, sorry.

Report n88uk September 9, 2017 3:19 AM BST
Keys will have to play balls tomorrow, something she didn't really last 2 matches, but Stephens will get balls back.

Also the factor I said yesterday that Keys has no b) game, if this become a nervous affair it's advantage Stephens because when you are nervous it's much easier to be a backboard, than it is to blast winners left, right and centre.
Report wisewords September 9, 2017 3:20 AM BST
but you think Keys wins, right?
Report wisewords September 9, 2017 3:21 AM BST
edy already told us the other day that Keys wins too.
Report Angela Rebecchi September 9, 2017 3:21 AM BST
If Keys is on like she was yesterday she can 1-2 punch a lot of her service games. Though if she plays like she did for large patches against Elina then she will be in a spot of bother.

Tough one. Playing CoCo can be a mistake. I mean we're assuming Vika players, if she doesn't they're gonna win regardless. But I can easily see CoCo mugging, but tbh I can see all of them mugging to Sasnovich tbh. Belarus are gonna need Vika playing well though to have a chance really. If Vika is playing well she can easily pick up 3 points alone, she's a far better doubles player than Keys, Stephens, CoCo are.

Is Govortsova still playing tennis or is she a professional lip model now?
Report n88uk September 9, 2017 3:23 AM BST
But it's virtue of who you are playing. Elina gets balls back. CoCo is a poor returner with an average backhand and average movement. CoCo wants to play that 1-2 punch game, but it's just worse than Keys' version hence why she loses.

Keys should win if she brings her A game then Sloane has no answers. Sure Sloane is a good returner but when Keys ups it she's too good for anyone atm, bah Serena and Garbine. That string of games against Elina was brutal, and her last 2 rounds have been breath taking. I'm not saying lump on at 1.5, I'll leave it thanks but Keys is rightly favourite.

The problem with Stephens in this match up is that she likes to build up play before she puts balls away, she will have far less time to do that against someone like Keys, so she will have to hope Keys is nervous and isn't firing, which tbh, is more likely to happend the other way round, Sloane is much more of a confidence player.

She also just beat Venus, and will inevitably suffer from JBABS, just like Sevastova did after her Sharapova win.

Stephens 1st serve is fine and not easy to attack, her 2nd serve the other night looked a point to worry about.

Living off ue's is fine when your opponent is Keys, most players beat her by living off her ue's. Keys has no base game to lean back on, if the errors are flowing there's nothing she can turn to.

Sloane is going to need Keys not to be firing as she did Elina set 3, or last 2 matches. She will need Keys to be spraying errors. Lord knows Keys can do that but recently she's been lights out which would be too good for Sloane or anyone, bah Serena or Garbine.
