Surely, the ATP need to take a close look at him. They need to check betting patterns with his match. There is tanking and there is this.

TIU couldn't find any find anything on him, but the Italian Federation found enough to ban him for 18 months. Says a lot about the TIU.

Has the TIU ever banned someone from the ATP tour for fixing matches?

Yes, but nobody I'd ever actually heard of before they got banned.

If TIU would cooperate with bookies you can have a list of at least 20 tennis players who you can investigate.

fixing matches isn't cheating. Cheating is gaining an unfair advantage.

I think the problem the likes of TIU have is finding someone guilty under law for match fixing is incredibly difficult. And because they don't want to pursue cases they won't win, this is why you end up with not a lot happening.

The thing I don't understand about a case like this is how the Italian Federation are even allowed to do this. Under what law do they have the power to ban players from the game? As Edy said in another thread, they recently banned Starace, and the evidence against him seemed to have him hung out to dry. However Starace had his ban overturned by CAS, and this again probably comes back to why the TIU don't appear to do anything.
