Impressed by her quiet self-confidence. Serena can get quite nervous in big finals, used to getting away with bullying opponents when shes below her best, opponents who dont believe they can beat her. Believe Kerber thinks she can win, and wont shirk it if she gets a chance. Reminds me of Sam Stosur who smashed Serena at U.S. Open final a few years ago, being able to play within herself and not letting occasion get to her. On top of that, pressure on Serena even bigger cos winning means she matches mighty Steffi's slam record of 22.

just thinking precisely the same or at the very least that we could see angie go odds on at some point.
i think she's short and these filthy courts give her game the best chance. her tactics against azarenka can easily be transferred to serena and all she has to do is get serena doubting and we've a much closer match. |

You can't relate Stosur's US win to Kerber's first final, Stosur had already been to a slam final the year before and in that match that she won, Serena wasn't nervous but was distracted by the hindrance call she let play on her mind. The likeliness is that Kerber will be as nervous as what Chokesicki was v Bartoli, never recovered. I don't get the pressure point either, as if she's never dealt with pressure situations before
 I'd be amazed if Kerber managed to hold more than once in each set, Willam's is playing better in this slam than she did in any slam last year, the French was the worst slam I've seen of hers, probably should have knocked out by 4 different players on another day, but still won. |

It was already 2-6,0-0 bp Stosur when the hindrance was called and Serena won the next two games and 11 of 15 points directly following the hindrance call. If anything it was Stosur who was distracted by it. |

true, but I think quality isn't the lone reason in deciding finals umpires. There's a very big element of "every good umpire gets a go" at play too

I started watching at 3-2 in the last set and I can't recall Kerber playing one single winner, just defend, defend, defend. Stayed patient and let Williams make mistakes

Well done she played great. For what ever reason the champion probably played her worst match of the championship there. Unforced errors wise terrible.

Some were unforced for sure, but some were also a result of frustration because Angie gets so much back.
