But that money has to come from somewhere doesn't it. Yes majors could easily afford it.

It's a tough issue imo, because you can't blame the players, and I don't think this solution is viable.

Depends, if you kept aside even 500k for this is. Is a couple of mug matches disappearing really worth that?

But do they care about these mug matches, to them they make no news, so no-one cares.

I mean in effect doing this, you're paying players for making the top 100. Guess this issue comes even more murky when the ITF don't make the rankings. Would a grand slam really see paying Shelby Rogers not to play as worth it, probably not (to the bigger names, whether they get paid or not is a total non-issue anyway).

Especially as offering R1 money not to play seems like it could lead to a few iffy things tbh. Like clay mugs citing injury for Wimbledon or whatever, then playing a challenger in the 2nd week.
