Evening, does anyone know exactly what time Betfair stopped offering odds on the final through the sportsbook?

dont suppose any of the firms refunding on federer ?

Just wondered whether they were still offering odds after it was clear that Federer had pulled out and if they were, did they take steps to void these bets as it against themselves and not other customers on the exchange.

bets on the final would be void as the final didn't happen. Bets on the outright winner pay out as Djokovic still won it. The outright market only suspended on the exchange as the official announcement was made. Novak backed into 1.01 outright just before that. No idea what went on on sportsbook

there were lots of activity on that market from when the rumors started until it was official. it was gradual.

djok was still 1.28 in the outright as the rumours started. but as the rumours gathered pace he was gradually backed into 1.12 at 5.16 pm UK time and as i was watching fed make the announcement on sky djok had been backed into 1.01 and the market was suspended. All on the exchange.
So i can't answer your question re sportsbook, but i'd imagine they stopped taking bets on djok as soon as they first heard the rumours and the exchange took a little time to move after they first started, so they probably had a little time to close the book before people would have started hammering into djok. |

Confirmation from Betfair that all bets placed on the Sportsbook from 8.18am on the day of the final have been voided......
Obviously I don't know whether Betfair's books favoured a Djoko or Federer win but they certainly managed to either protect themselves from a big loss or play it fair. Seems like double standards to me. |

Does anyone know what actually happened at 8.18am yesterday to make Betfair use that reference point to void bets from?

One can only speculate. It could have been the time Roger told ATP about his decision to withdraw, but at a quick glance I can't find anything that says this should be a reason to void.
I don't understand why a sportsbook would offer outright bets on winner market after semifinal anyway, most sportsbooks just offer final match odds market after that which requires the match to start/have one set completed/the entire match completed depending on rules. I am not familiar with Betfair's sports book rules since I don't use it. I had a quick look but couldn't find anything under tennis that gives them the right to void this, unless the market was opened 8:18 and then all bets were voided because of this rule under tennis: If a player commences play in a tournament all bets will stand on the selection for outright purposes. If a player fails to compete in a given tournament the selection will be treated as a non-runner and stakes on the player returned. That seems muggy since he competed in the tournament though and it doesn't specifically say that the player must start in the next round (even though that might be what they mean). Feel free to keep us updated, it's interesting to see how it goes and what their reasoning for voiding is. |
