in 5 to 10 ten years from now the tour will be filled up with Basketball players all at 6ft 6in - 7ft serving tennis into a mediocre sport and rallying into oblivion with no more than 3 shots per point with every match finishing, 76 67 76 67 76 in the slams, most will come from america as they are finished in the mens game and are that desperate to win again, they'll send all the failed NBA hopefuls into tennis academies and will spend 10 hours a day just practising serving and nothing else and will dominant tennis, once nadal, federer and djokovic pack up, improved versions of anderson, isner, karlovic and the likes of Veseley, Janowicz, and the NBA yank serve bots will all take over with only Dimitrov fighting the corner of the all action game, but nobody will be able to return the 180mph bombs,  make the most of tennis now it's will be finished as we know it

If that was to happen there is an easy fix, get rid of the 2nd serve. If you don't have two goes at a serve you wont be going for the bomb unless you are 40-0 up or something.

Only an issue in the farce that is grass court tennis.
Report T20man July 5, 2014 7:59 AM BST
No, endless rallies (and 5 hour matches) from the back of the court will bring about the end of tennis.

The tennis world is screaming out for another great serve/volley champion....ala Sampras.
Report stu July 5, 2014 8:29 AM BST
Agree with T20 - used to be a lot more exciting when serve was more important IMO. Remember Becker?
Report stu July 5, 2014 8:30 AM BST
OP also seems rather ironic that you reference Dimi as a 'good' player when he serves bombs too!
Report aaronh July 5, 2014 8:59 AM BST
Vesely isn't a servebot lol.

we've seen all those continuous deep slam runs by servebots so far haven't we (Anderson best run 4R, Isner 1x QF, Ivo 1x QF) Plain Milos has made big improvements in the last year though his limitations were still severely exposed by Fed
Report stu July 5, 2014 9:03 AM BST
Serve has become far less important in tennis than it used to be, so I'm confused about the OP entirely.
Report aaronh July 5, 2014 9:17 AM BST
Mes just upset he had to sit through some boring semi finals and is blaming Raonic for it.

It's odd, given that people criticise women serving all the time, true greats at serving like Raonic and Isner should be popular right Silly

players at the top obviously need far more than a big serve. it's still kinda funny there is this fear of servebots considering the game is going in the completely opposite direction.

btw

they'll send all the failed NBA hopefuls into tennis academies

what, at like 20?

They actually showed some stats graphics on beeb yesterday that showed exactly how it's shifted from big servers to big returners in the rankings these days.
Report stu July 5, 2014 9:22 AM BST
I miss the big servers in the game - Becker, Poussis, Sampras, Ivanisevic, etc...exciting games.

Another nonsense thread from the forum mug.  Fewer serve bots than there's ever been
Report mesmerised July 5, 2014 11:04 AM BST
lol DonNo1Mug, given the amount of shyte you've peddled on the arsenal thread that's ironicLaugh

The average height of tennis players is getting bigger and bigger, big servers are creeping back in,  in 10 years there will be a load of 6ft10in players making up the top 100, so why people are talking about the present in regards to the stats on returners I have no idea Crazy

Right now is still a golden generation for tennis with the likes of Federer, Novak and Nadal,  which is why I said when they’re gone, I cant see for years after players as good as them coming up and taking their place, add that to the bigger players with the bigger serves then in the game and what you have is the death of tennis
Report stu July 5, 2014 11:40 AM BST
mesmerised - how does that make sense when serve is much less of the game than it used to be?
Report stu July 5, 2014 11:40 AM BST
Big servers used to dominate, especially for grass, now they don't!
Report stu July 5, 2014 11:43 AM BST

I won't ask you to name these big servers that are creeping in because you cant.

Clueless.

Not exclusively no. Decent serve is of course a pre-requisite to be a player professionally, but it's the follow up play that makes his game not just the serve.

has anyone read game set and cash

tells the story of the team of courtsider monkeys (calling themselves gamblers and traders) pressing buttons to send the scores back to a base from every tennis tournament on the tour

dont bother wasting £20 on it doesnt let much out its more about how him and his mates getting pissed at every venue and getting chucked out of some tournaments more so after a company bought the data rights to the score at the end of  2012
