No I mean truly great, she won't ever be mentioned alongisde true greats like Serena, steffi graf, navratilova, one of the best in her era, but an era completely dominated by her "biggest rival" she's lost to in every match for 9 and a half years

it's a cop out to say she "was unlucky to be in serenas era" - she has only ever been knocked out in slams by serena on 3 occasions I think I posted earlier, what about the other 30 odd slams

I wouldn't put Masha in the same tier as Serena, Graf and Navratilova, but would still consider her an all time great. The fact that she's come back back from so many more injuries makes her results even more impressive.

its more competitive because the standard of play is significantly lower. a player like sharapova would never be as successful in the atp - i would compare her to hewitt

It basically depends how broad you take all time great as.

For me all time great means in the discussion for the best ever. So I wouldn't personally have Sharapova down as that.

since sharapova won her first slam  has been knocked out of slams by

French open: Serena / Li na / Henin / Cibulkova / safina / Ivanovic / safina  / henin
wimbledon: De Brito / Lisicki / Kvitova / Serena / Dulko / Kudryavtseva / venus / Mauresmo / Venus /
US open: Azarenka / pennetta / wozniacki / oudin / radwanska / henin / clijsters
Austrlia: cibulkova / li na / azarenka / petkovic / kirilenko / serena / henin / serena /

she may be one of the best players in her era, but an all time great? that's an insult to the likes of serena and graff, who would have sliced her to pieces
Report edy June 5, 2014 4:52 PM BST

absolutely, not just because he's won 6 slams, reached 12 finals, but he has been more than a match for the best players not just in his generation but in history

yeah, it should also not be spelled Graaf: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogMRSwk2LpI

mes, you don't think Djokovic would be a quitter for ducking out of the final against Nadal or Murray if he retires tomorrow after having won against Gulbis in the semis?
Report aaronh June 5, 2014 4:55 PM BST
in those losses fwiw

French Open - 4 champs (2x multi) and a finalist
Wimbledon - 4 champs (2x multi) and a finalist
US Open - 2 champs (both Multi), 2 finalists
Aus - 4 champs (2x multi), 1 finalist

some GOATs like Mel, and the odd losses are when she was coming back from injury
