I give that Federer is better technically and some have a preference for his style of play. However, when it comes to winning Tennis matches and competitions, no one has been better than NADAL.

To be fair to Nadal drugged up to the eyeballs or not has proven himself on every surface, won more masters than anyone else and will no doubt break Federer's 17 record,and will finish his career with a positive h2h record v anyone that mattered, statistically he will be untouchable, is he the best ever? he's the best clay court player ever, has the best forehand I've ever seen, a good serve but not the best but given you can't realistically compare eras, you will never have the definitive answer. If you had to build the perfect Tennis player his forehand is the only thing I'd take along with his mentality which is almost unparalleled.
Psychology is important to him, if I were a player I'd mess with his psychology/superstitions, wait for him to cross the net first instead to sit down, take as much time as he does to serve even if that means getting the odd time violation, rearrange his water bottles that he meticulously places, take more time to get up from his chair then he does. Nobody really bothers though, must have all skipped sports psychology classes. |

All those streaks are nothing compared to TOURNAMENT WINS! That's what really counts!!! I'm not belittling Federer's streaks, as they clearly show how consistent he was. However, Nadal will likely break Federer's Slam record by 2015 and he has more Masters and nobody ever expected Nadal to do this given his initial clay court specialisation/knee injuries/Djoko 2.0.
It really is crazy as Fed came and beat Sampras's record and now Nadal will do the same to Fed! His record won't even last 5 years. He must hate Nadal. Fed would be close to 24 slams in not for the him. That topspin forehand to Fed's backhand must give him nightmares!!! |

Im not denying fed was class but his oppistion wasnt great until nadal came along, he pretty much just had to beat Roddick in each final, even if nadal doesnt break his record which he really should break id still put him down as the best

I am intrigued that you chose "Fedhater" as a user name back in 2004 and until this thread you have only posted 153 times.
Anyway, the story is still unfolding so picking a GOAT will be easier when both Federer and Nadal have retired. |

5 of those 9 GS victories were when Nadull already had come up (spring '05), but didn't even make the final

Alot to consider with both, fed has never been injured in a slam where as nadal has quite a few times, 8 of nadals slams have been at the french were hes unplayable, fed definatly won a few slams in a weaker era also but u can only beat whats in front of u i suppose. Until recently i thaught djocko would surpass both

nadal has more french titles than fed has wimbledon............their best surfaces and
nadal has more wimbledons than fed has french..............their worst surfaces nadal has beaten fed in french, wimbledon and aus, while fed has only beaten nadal at wimbledon all rafa has to do is won 5 more grand slams which im sure he will if he wins this week..............it will then be a non issue |

A lot of this weak era chat is self defeating
- Fed won 13 slams after Nadal claimed his first, 5 after Djokovic did - Nadal is part of that weak era Yeah but Fed only had to beat mugs - Nadal loses to the very same mugs Fed beat. Yeah but the look at the H2H - If Fed had been dumped out of the French to the very mugs above like Youzhny, Gonzalez, Ferrer etc instead of battling through to the final the H2H would be less favourable In this so called strong era how many times has Nadal beaten two of Murray/Djok/Fed back to back to win a slam? 3 times I think and all at the French |
