Garcia showed today that her movement isn't amazing. If someone can move her around the court + has a decent serve, they've got a chance of stealing a set. Li I think could take a set off her at least

Petra has the power, but her level of consistency is dire recently. Finding it hard to see her beating Makarova tomorrow ffs

when williams has to move 6ft left or right from the centre baseline, she looks as slow as a boat and hits the ball back with nowhere near the same power that normally blows her opponent off the court.

All it will take is for one of the girls to take the pace off a few balls, stretch her wide and Williams can  be made to look very ordinary imo.

Porblem is most of the girls just stick to trying to slug  it out from the baseline, trying to outhit their opponent straight up the centre of the court. Just won't work against Williams.

wisewords is correct. The girl who beats Williams won't overpower or outhit her. She will move her around the court, including drawing her into the net on their own terms. Garcia managed the latter a couple of times today

Roberta Vinci is very inconsistent, but she has the shots to move a player around the court. The problem for her is that Serena's power rushes her. I think Li can give her some problems, and also possibly (only my gut feeling) Cetkovska.

The other factor is Serena's own level... could it dip? If someone takes a set off her, she could get frustrated and then start playing tight when some pressure is applied.

almost certainly Lisicki, got more talent than Williams, but obviously brittle mentally.

But if she uses the angles of the court as well as her power, can make Williams look ordinary. Convinced Williams is slow if a ball not whacked straight back to her.

Serena can have bad days of course, she does lose sometimes

What about Stosur? Sure, it's a big ask for her to beat Lisicki but sense her grass court game has improved & if she got past Lisicki her confidence would soar, & she beat Serena in US Open final.

stosur looked average when she played a couple days ago, her opponent was custom made for her style and she still struggled at some points

the truth is that williams physical dominance is unquestionable, but she relies on it to bully her opponents and consequently protect herself from a few mental frailties.

a hyper aggressive front runner.

now sometimes that can be enough to charge through an entire tournament unchallenged, with last years olympics being an excellent example.

but if she can be troubled, she's vulnerable.

i could go on.

knock her out of her zone, and if you've got the mettle and the game, you've got a much better chance than the odds always seem to suggest.

the thing is that there's litle to be gained in trying to predict this happening. it's often very obvious in play when it starts, so wait and watch.

She annoys the crap out of me! It's like she thinks that she deserves to win and nobody else does? And when things aren't going her way she starts screaming etc. This must be very intimidating for her opponent.

If there is any justice in the world she won't win for these reasons.

I hope that the next commentators on her match don't start going off on her life story, it drives me MAD!!!

There must come a point when her tournament opponents have been offering so little real competition that her own game tends to deteriorates as a result and she will meet an opponent who is improving through competition and will really take her on in an all round way and if necessary with better screams and all

(at least it would be a laugh)

Whether that will happen in Wimbledon is another matter.
