What seems a bit crazy is that as a player progresses through the tournament their odds go up!

Obviously it's not always the case but it seems to happen most of the time?

I can't believe I got 13 for Li about a week ago!

And don't get me started on Kvitova and Azarenka!

Sloane Stephens doubled in price.

It goes on and on...

BUT I wish I'd had taken 4s on Serena only a few months ago!

Certainly true of the low odds faves like Nadal; I agree completely.  Nadal was 1.75 before a ball was hit....traded over
2.0 during his match against Brands.  It's kind of crazy...unless the guy wins every match easily up to the quarters, you might as well wait...who knows?  Upsets occur, injuries occur....at 1.75 there's obviously very little room for the odds to go down.  One more match before the quarters where Nadal drops a set and he's gonna be close to even money...

You take a reliable guy like Federer at double digits early, history tells you he'll still be around at the quarters...his odds have to go down.  Djoker takes out Nadal and now you've got a tradable asset on your hands.

All depends on the guy in question...these longshots will be longshots even if they get to the round of 16....I mean you think that Monfils has a serious chance of winning this thing?  It's throwing your money away and everybody knows it.

God only knows.  If Djokovic is out then of course odds will be very low, less than 1.3.  If it is Djokovic Nadal final then I would say about 1.6 or 1.65 Nadal....much depends upon their relative form going into the final.  If either gets into an adventure before the final then it will affect odds.

The odds movements on players during a tournament is of course relying on how well they are playing, but even more important is which of their possible future rounds opponents are knocked out.
The odds of someone like Nishikori is a good example of this.
He wont shorten much if he wins his match today, maybe down to 800 - 850, but if either Nadal or Djokovic is knocked out later today , his odds will plummit.  If both Nadal and Djokovic wins easily, he will probably drift to 1000 again.
