Bertens Vs Vinci: First impressions were that Vinci would win but seeing that Bertens beat Arruba. 6-1 6-1 in the last round and the same play knocked Vinci out of Indian Wells a month ago I am less sure now. I know Kiki is a player back on the up but am unsure how far she has come.
Is there a shortage of Air in the UFO at Katowice?? Is everyone breathing in brick dust or is the nightlife amazing out there because I have never seen so many knackered players after 2 sets. The worst case been Zaco Vs Camerin where both players looked like they had been playing all day. EDS |

The reason people being sick/strugging to adjust is due to the temperature change from Miami to Poland.

Bertens breaks game 1.

By:
Vinci just missing way too often atm.

Sam Smith is one of the better commentators on Eurosport.
By:
Hmmmm Bertens winning comfortably.
By:
she rarely hits a winner, though - it's mostly errors on Vinci's side.
By:
Vinci comeback now?
By:
Vinci too passive with her endless slices
By:
it's a different story when she attacks .. but it's been a rare sight so far today
By:
very good KIKI!
By:
Sam Smith needs a good spanking.
By:
quite impressive from Kiki
it's her fav surface, and she won her only title on clay last year (as a qualifier btw). |
By:
tough nut to crack for Roberta
By:
and green on Kiki, gl
By:
vinci is toast
By:
Tbh this title is wide open. Kvitova is favourite, but judging from yesterday is very beatable this week.
By:
I find it amazing that Kvitova may be the last seed standing after this match. I would never expect this before the tourney started
By:
and it's also possible that all seeds can be eliminated after just two rounds
By:
Vinci has won her last 3 full matches from a set down
By:
well im all in on kiki

Part of that mouse trap is that a lot of the seeds were ranked in the 25-40 range. The gap in level between someone ranked 30 in the world, and someone ranked 60 in the world tends to be pretty minimal. Just tends to mean the higher ranked player strung together a few runs on their ranking.
By:
time to trade a little, i hope vinci gets 2nd set
By:
let's see:
cornet (33) lost to schmiedlova, ranked 186 zakopalova (21) to camerin (174) goerges (30) to craybas (240) lisicki (41) to cadantu (117) |
By:
Lol yer tbf they lost to some pretty average players. I thought all of those were surprising bar Lisicki.
By:
great servin
By:
Even so though. The difference between #1 and #30 is greater than the difference between #30 and #200.
By:
The form of a lot of the seeds coming in was very poor too. Goerges, Lisicki, Robson in poor form. Kanepi hadn't played in a long time.
By:
Great defence from Bertens.
By:
beautiful smash from the italian;
