Both in great form, based on their last match.

Sharapova has not lost a set this tournament. The only sets she has lost this year are against na li and williams- the only matches she has also lost this year.

Their h2h is 11-2, and 4 - 0 in the past 12 months. The last 4 have been have been straightforward wins for williams

I think this will continue, serena to win and in 2 sets

Maria is a mental giant...Serena is a giant
Report n88uk March 30, 2013 6:11 PM GMT
Maria Sharapova's mental toughness is a span up myth to me that comes mainly from her battles vs mugs. Normally all self-inflicted. She folds completely vs the top players time after time.
Report Darlo Bantam March 30, 2013 6:11 PM GMT
She might be mentally stronger than the rest of the tour but that's not hard. But the likes of Azarenka and Williams are certainly mentally stronger than her.

Report n88uk March 30, 2013 6:12 PM GMT
Her mental toughness aura comes from days like when the wind is heavy and she gets in a 3-set mugfest with 20 breaks of serve with someone ranked 30. But really mental toughness should be measure by how you are in the BIG moments, and time after time Maria has not delivered.
Report Darlo Bantam March 30, 2013 6:12 PM GMT
And I bet Sharapova has won about 10 points in total during those 10 games.

Report n88uk March 30, 2013 6:14 PM GMT
Obviously Serena is great, but I seriously don't even think she got that much better in this match. It wasn't like Cibulkova where she seriously upped her level. The match was there for the taking for Maria and she blew it, her level went off a cliff.
Report n88uk March 30, 2013 6:15 PM GMT
Hogstedt always makes me laugh. Normally his tactics in on court coaching is "she will choke.". He didn't try that one today though.

It's gotta be tough to take. You'd have to be pretty strong to try and spin this into a positive now despite taking a set. It would be easy if the 3rd set was 6-4 to take positives. But the positives now seem few and far between.
