i'm just thinking, aren't we overplaying the 'lay the 1st set winner' approach a bit?
it looks like fairly consistent WTA strategy and it's quite worrying
(excluding players like Shazza etc, of course)

Going to keep a little green on Big John for the TB. Maybe he can sneak it.
Seemingly none of the rest of the pack can actually hammer home a lead though. Probably is why they are ranked where they are, no mental strength, no consistency etc.

which is why i always find it odd the level of seething when some mug drops his standard of play and get called a fixer

unless it's Azza, Shazza, Serena.. a wta player that gets 1 set ahead is a prime candidate for choking the 2nd (except when the opponent is an absolute nobody)
Pretty much. They are the only 3 that if the first set is 6-1, the next set is also probably 6-1.

Kuala Lumpur: i just reviewed the draw - there were some 3 setters there as well, but less than average i tend to agree. most of the matches were pretty straghtforward demolitions as you hinted

when you say competitive, yes.
but it's not that easy to say 'competitive' before the match starts. it may look simple with the GSM sign flashing but a couple of hours earlier it's a different story
