So when Djokovic folds on the big points it is an off day but when Murray does it he is a choker?

Remember...Even though Murray beat Djoko at the US...He had to do it in 5 sets, with a fresher Andy and even then most sets Andy won were close.

So now we are talking about a more tired Andy coming into the final. Djoko will be a justified fav.

Muzza has raised his game to a new level now. It was only Fed's instinctive match toughness & android-like play in tie-breakers that forced it to 5. Muzza essentially tore Fed a new one today in terms of shot-making & all court play. Great to see.

Report Welshie5121 January 25, 2013 2:13 PM GMT
End of the day, Murray still isn't there. Federer was well below his best, yet he pushed Murray to 5.

Murray still mentally inept in the tight points in sets, both the breakers and when he served for it at 6-5.

Murray only won the 5th so easily due to Federer's lack of fitness, or whatever. His level just wasn't there for him in the 5th.

When Nadal does eventually come back, Murray will then return to having to beat two out of three in slams, rather than one out of two. (Albeit, he has had to beat two out of two this slam.)

It is up to Federer, he can quite easily sustain a top 4 ranking for the next 3/4 years as the level of #5 and below is nowhere near the level of the top 4 (Nadal included in top 4, not Ferrer). It is just wether Federer is happy with getting to QF/SF in majors and winning minor events, or wether he really thinks that he has a chance to hang on until Rio.

IMO, he will always have an outside chance at going all the way again, as he goes through the first four rounds so easily.

Report Welshie5121 January 25, 2013 2:29 PM GMT
I think Nadal has been wise coming back on clay, see how his knee and fitness is on his favored surface and take it from there.

He would then only have IW and Miami before the clay swing and then Wimbledon.

I think we will see him back to his best around about RG.

Don't think he can compete with Djoko/Murray on hard anymore but clay and grass he will still be challenging IMO.
Report Welshie5121 January 25, 2013 2:32 PM GMT
HTEHB - he was inept at 6-5 30-15, the serves were coming in around 80mph... I could hit dominating returns, with the serve at that pace.

He had been serving great throughout the match on a whole and then come 6-5 after coming back from 4-1 down he just choked like his old self.

Had Federer of had more in the tank, I really do believe he would've pushed Murray to the point where he choked again.

As always, this is all hypothetical...
