Could Raonic do the unthinkable, I fancy he could take the first set. (That would really clear the way for Murray)

I backed Kohli to beat Raonic, he normally susses out the big servers, but he couldn't get near Raonic, who I had down as a big dope.

Fed was near perfect against Tomic.  Anything less and Raonic will take a set, minimum.   Bet is lay Fed in 3.
Report bazzer31 January 21, 2013 9:45 AM GMT
Fed is on fire and playing awesome but Raonic seems to pushed him in their prev 3 meetings which happened all in 2012

Raonic took a set of fed in each of those but they were not in Grand Slams.

So i expect Fed to come out hard, trying to get on top early and win in 3 or 4 sets
Report T20man January 21, 2013 9:48 AM GMT
I heard earlier that the last 3 times these 2 have played, Raonic won the 1st
set on each occasion. He is paying 4.50 to win the 1st set here!!! Crazy odds...Confused.

Rog has been playing well but he's been really struggling to put people away.  Raonic brings more to the table than Davy or Tomic and could easily bag a set or two.

Definitely more adventurous than the average player these days.

remember how we talked about commentators and odds during kvitova/robson. before this match, what I believe is the same commentator said raonic would be 50/1 if he went down a set here. what a shame he is too busy calling the matches and not offering odds on here.
Report therhino January 21, 2013 10:34 AM GMT
Raonic got nothing but the serve against him. Can't see him breaking, a TB only way he wins a set. As soon as it gets to a rally it's basically 90/10 Fed's way.
Report YOMOMMA January 21, 2013 10:37 AM GMT

Raonic is terrible. If he is the "next big thing" mens tennis will be s**t in a couple of years. Big serve with nothing else. No return, no net skills, awful tactics (happy to play passive 5-10 feet behind the baseline), and prone to error.
Report shiraz January 21, 2013 11:13 AM GMT
DStyle, 1.16 may have been correct price at start of 2nd set, but not at 6-6.  I hav'nt got figures for what it should be but it has to be higher than 1.16.

Report hvvn January 21, 2013 11:14 AM GMT
Well based on Raonic only winning 4 points in the entire game against the Federer serve, half of which were unforced errors, the price would be approx 1.16

Report DStyle January 21, 2013 11:17 AM GMT
shiraz: the 1.16 was based on how the set was being played at the time.

so if Fed continued to win 92% of his points on serve and raonic won 74% on his, fed would be 1.16 to win a breaker.

given that fed has an added advantage on the important points, you could add on a factor for it being shorter.

i'm not saying it's "correct", it's one price obtained one way; you can get a handful of different prices, which may not be necessarily be more "correct" than the others.

nothing wrong with raonic really.

fed is just very good.

90% to 95% of raonic's opponents will not be as dominant on serve, and the pressure his serve brings, makes them get a bit chokey.

truth is, when he's up against someone who can serve better than him, with respect to his ability to return, he's shown up as being just as fragile.

Federer really has been quite amazing in this match. Just great to watch. He will get punished by the better players though if he keeps trying to run around for the forehand
Report n88uk January 21, 2013 11:26 AM GMT
I am not denying Fed is playing well. Course he is. But it's being made easy for him. What is Raonic doing exactly on return to win points? What is his strategy? He's happy to just get the ball in play, and try and push an UE out of Fed. Except it's Raonic who makes the UE every 3rd ball. Raonic will never trouble any of the top guns at the majors playing like this.
Report shiraz January 21, 2013 11:26 AM GMT
No worries DStyle, I base my betting on statistics so as the set progresses and the favourite has not broken serve then prices need to adjust accordingly (based on stats only).  I have accurate stats for each part of the first set, but once it gets to 2nd and 3rd etc there is less data for each possibility so it becomes less accurate.
