Federer around 1.26 vs Ferrer

Where are you getting 1.26, it's 1.25 with laddies, actually doesn't matter, 1.66 for 2-0 Fed is a better option.

and there nothing different about this court from last year's SF (which i might add i enjoyed from excellent seats at the O2) to make any difference

he'll try to nadal him, constantly going after his backhand, but it doesn't work because he hasn't got the revolutions to make fed uncomfortable. eventually he'll drop it short, or not get the angle, and once it's on fed's forehand he can't live with him.

it's a massive price, when fed was 1.16 here last year, and he's had  better year this year and isn't ferrer supposed to be tired.

Fed has beaten him 2-0 at the last 2 Masters ATP events and 3-0 in the 07 final. Ferrer hasn't taken a set from him indoors. He has only taken 3 sets in 13 matches overall, 2 of those were on clay, ferrer's best and fed's worst surface. However well Ferrer is playing, I don't think he has a game plan for Federer, nothing seems to work for him. I'm not sure he believes he can beat him. His head tends to drop once he goes behind to him. Ferrer is the type of player who gives his opponent the runaround with his power and energy but those roles tend to be reversed against fed and that doesn't work for Ferrer. The H2H shows all of this. Losing this will not be fatal for Ferrer either, as I think he'll still beat Tipsy and get through.

If it is ever going to happen, now is the time but it's not something I'd bet on. If I can get a higher price on Fed in play or if he goes too low too early then I might get involved for a trade but it doesn't look like backers will make a large return on stake in this one.

In-form David Ferrer takes on Roger Federer for the 14th time today and is still searching for his first win over the Swiss. Will it be today? Sean Calvert talks us through the best bets.

Wednesday at the O2 proved to be a frustrating one for outright match odds punters, as Andy Murray was beaten by Novak Djokovic after a great start.

The Scot, sporting another seriously tight-fitting kit, this time in yellow and white, was fully in control of the match after outplaying Djokovic in the opening set and made for a good trade from his starting point of 2.16.

But he lost concentration and allowed the Serb back in it before a third set rally saw him two points from winning the match, however Nole wasn't to be denied in the end.

Thursday sees Group B's second helping of round robin matches take centre stage with Roger Federer taking on David Ferrer for the 14th time at tour level and the Spaniard is yet to win a single one.

Confidence wise, Ferrer will surely not have a better shot at grabbing a win over his nemesis than today, but the concern is fatigue after two long weeks on tour plus an energy sapping three-setter against Juan Martin Del Potro on Tuesday night.

If Ferrer has anything left in the tank he is the sort of form to give the Swiss a scare, but the match-up is clearly an awful one for the Spaniard.

He can take heart from Nikolay Davydenko breaking a 12 match losing streak against Federer here in 2009 when the odds were roughly the same as the 1.24 and 5.0 that they are today, so it's not impossible. Fernando Gonzalez also did it at the year-end event in China a couple of years earlier too.

After going 0-5 against top-10 players at the start of the year, Ferrer has won six of the last nine against them and four of the last five, but it's hard to have a huge amount of faith with that 0-13 record against Federer.

The Swiss defends too well indoors against Ferrer and on hard, indoor hard and carpet Federer has won 17 of the 18 sets they've played against each other, so there's little to really inspire me to back against the world number two today in the match odds market.

But confidence is a huge thing on a tennis court and for me the value in this one lies in the first set market - a set where Ferrer will be giving it his absolute all and over 9.5 games at around 1.8 looks a good bet to me.

I get the feeling that if Federer wins the first set then the effects of the last few weeks will suddenly catch up with Ferrer, but he's kept it tight in the opener against the Swiss in four of their last five meetings and he's in the sort of form to do so again today.

He plays so much better on indoor courts than he used to - (11 in a row).

However, I agree with others, this is a terrible match up for Ferrer.
Fed wins more free points off his serve than Ferrer by a significant margin.

He'll give Ferrer no rhythm to work with - the Spaniard can expect the usual varied assortment of short balls, droppers, change-ups etc etc
Fed's slice is hugely effective on these courts - it's both a weapon and a defensive shot rolled into one.
Federer spreads the court amazingly well - meaning even one of the great defenders in Ferrer eventually runs out of time, space and answers.

Fed wins for me.
