Tennis expert Sean Calvert began the week in good style by landing a winner on day one of the ATP World Tour Finals on Monday. Sean gives us his best bet on day two in the clash between Roger Federer and Janko Tipsarevic.. It was a good start to the final event on the 2012 ATP World Tour calendar at the O2 in London on Monday, as my opening bet of the week was successful. It was always likely to be an up and down affair between Andy Murray and Tomas Berdych and after a nervy start the Scot was able to come through in three and bring my bet home at a decent 2.50. Day two of the World Tour Finals sees the entrance of defending champion Roger Federer, who takes on the big outsider of the tournament Janko Tipsarevic. On the face of it this looks like the perfect opener for Federer against an opponent who he's beaten five times from five attempts and someone who was last seen quitting in Paris last week with all sorts of supposed ailments. I have a feeling that there wasn't a great deal wrong with Janko last week and similarly to others in Bercy it appears that the Serb opted to save himself for this tournament, but he's now claiming to be suffering from a virus, which clouds things a little. It shouldn't have been a surprise to anyone to see him retire, as he now has either quit or withdrawn 28 times in his career, compared with Federer's two. ![]() At his best Tipsarevic can certainly give the Swiss a run for his money and an interesting fact is that Federer's opening round robin match in the year-end championships have gone to three sets six times in the last seven years. So, I wouldn't be too keen to run out and put all of the Christmas present money on a 2-0 Fed win at around 1.4 based on those stats. ![]() He should come though this one, but he hasn't been at his peak since the summer, losing to Berdych in New York, Murray in Shanghai, and Juan Martin Del Potro in front of his home crowd in Basel. He skipped Paris of course and it may take him a set just to get going here, so the bet I like is the 2.08 about Tipsy with a 4.5 games start on the handicap. If he's feeling OK he could go close and as we've already seen, he's not shy of quitting if he's not feeling well. Federer failed to make the 4.5 game handicap against Thomaz Bellucci and Paul-Henri Mathieu in Basel and Tipsy, if he's not hampered by this virus, should add his name to that list. Recommended Bet Back Tipsarevic + 4.5 games to beat Federer at 2.08 Not sure what his record is. |

cutting post in half again ffs
anyway not saying to do one or the other, pretty much a coinflip bet imho. you need at least 6-4 6-3, bollocks "tips" |

Federer has never retired from a match in his entire career... |

for -4.5 to land*
ffs |
By:
ok, I have to admit it! I don't understand what '+4.5' and -4.5' means. Can someone please explain to me ?
By:
+4.5 handicap, means Tipsarevic gets a 4.5 game head start in line betting. Eg if the score is Federer 7-6 7-6 Tipsarevic, the total games is 14-12 in favour of Federer in which case he wins by 2 games. (The Tipsarevic bet would win in this instance)
By:
If Tipsarevic Wins the game OR Loses the match by 1,2,3 or 4 games= The +4.5 Handicap Tipsarevic bet would pay out as well

interesting stat about Fed's 6 of 7 opening games in ATP World Championships going the distance (during the last 7 seasons)........going to have a cheeky lay on Fed at 1.13 to keep things interesting, will look to trade out higher in-play
By:
anyway was a bit fuzzy in the point making, imho the only way that bet lands is if 6-4 6-4 as i doubt tips will make it to 7-5 or a tb or better but that's a matter of opinion. it's not so close a line for no reason. just don't take it because some guy says so

@ noTry
Fed retirements probably refering to withdrawals during the tournament, once vs Blake in Bercy, and was it Doha this year? Handicap bet on Tipsa has a higher chance to land if he loses in 2 than in 3 sets imo |
By:
yes, this year Doha SF vs Tsonga, both times w/o before the match with back injury
By:
Forget the handicap, tipsy has won 20 games against fed in their last 7 sets, that's almost the equivalent of being beat on average 6-3 every set, i.e not meeting the handicap.

see you're already a better tipster than cal vert

Tipsarevic is a disgusting cheater, but he can win today. Roger has not played at the best level since the US Open. He lost to Berdych,Murray anda Del Potro...He even lost a set to Bellucci ffs...

By:
why game no start yet?
By:
Laying Fed 1st set and also laying Fed most aces despite earlier dominance. Janko canget into ace patches sometimes and 1.25 is not justified odds. But probably a loss there
