I was watching this match till 1am in my local time.
It was so emotional. All respect for Andy, because he was acting as a "tough" person everytime on court, but yesterday was different.
Yesterday he showed that he really loves tennis! He was already crying when 5*-4 Potro was serving for the match. Really thats why I love tennis.

so i was reading this thread and and only in last sentence about potro i understood that this respect is not for murray! respect for what? he lost his last match like mug |

Good thread HowdoIdo, ignore the riff raff. Roddick was a great competitor and his record of so many years in the top ten is testament to his dedication and commitment.
Young people can learn a lot from that example. |

I always loved Roddick for his professional attitude and great postgame interviews.

WE are not talking about early retirement or etc. Its his choise, he decided to retire while he is well known name in top100... You think it would be better if he plays 3 more years and became Top400 player? No way. He deserved to be remembered always as top20 player.

Roddick was a true competitor. He nearly gave up tennis before turning pro after a series of bad results, his coach convinced him to give it another shot. Classic in interviews, people think he's brash but he has a lot of humility and love of the game.

He was a great competitor. And while he hasn't gone out while he's on top, neither has he carried on to be just a journeyman tennis player picking up a few winnings from lower ranking events while not really being that bothered. I couldn't ever see Roddick being that type of tennis player. It's win or bust with him.

Despite he never had any serious injuries his tennis kept getting worse over the years. There was a lack of great players when Roddick could win the usopen, though roddick has shown some good tennis back then. His class is far behind nalbandian and haas and his retirement is just in time or maybe too late, at least he was able to win tournaments this year.

There was a lack of great players when Roddick could win the usopen
dont agree with that i think roddick had even more chances to win more slams and was very close,so it was no accident or lack of competition he won one. he was great player great to watch live,big respect for him. end of an era |

I'm too negative I can see that myself but I never liked seeing matches with him. Wimbledon final vs federer of course does is the excuse - a real classic. He was a solid top ten player and #1 server over years but When Gonzalez had to retire the game lost a lot more skills.
