Ferrer is such a fighter! But I can see here some chances for the frenchman, eho plays really good in US series this year. The H2H is 5-1 for Ferrer on Hard courts.
Any thoughts?

I was full of expectations when he beat Tipsarevic easily in AO just to get murdered himself by Ferrer in the next round.
So this time lets not expect sh1t from him and see what happens
Report ClayDavis September 4, 2012 7:58 AM BST
Ferrer is an animal. Richie will wilt and David will eat him alive
Report Supernando2010 September 4, 2012 8:05 AM BST
ye Davide might simply be just a complete mismatch for him.

Gasquet has the talent but maybe he lacks the determination and self-belief when he plays Ferrer.
Report owning September 4, 2012 8:39 AM BST
first set is extremely important for gasgay and from a neutral standpoint i hope he takes it to make the match more interesting, he actually matches pretty well to ferrer because ferrer's weaker and predictable BH (which he hits cross court 80% of the time) allows gasgay to dictate the point with his BH and unleash his BH DTL for the winner. But Ferrer is a beast and will grind players down with his consistency and kill their self belief. Just look at hewitt as a prime example. Matched him well in the first 2 sets, unlucky to lose the first set, then lost the self belief to comeback against the beast in a 5 sets match.
Report timmy2988 September 4, 2012 9:28 AM BST
I think if it was as simple as Gas-Gay reading Ferrers cross court backhand then the H2H wouldn't be 7-1 in favour of the wall... The sets will be close like they were in Rome but Ferrer always seems to grind him down in the end... Also, Rishee has played 2 American qualifiers who both sh1t the bed. Ferrer has beaten off big knuckleheads Anderson and Sijsling and Hewitt who threw everything at him and still could barely win a game towards the end.
Report bb66 September 4, 2012 11:36 AM BST
I compare Ferrer with a diesel engine, but Gasgay might win 1st set. Also 2 bets I had on Ferrer this year went wrong oneway (Belucchi and recently Wawa), so my money remains in the pocket.
Report drwankenstein80 September 4, 2012 1:35 PM BST
in 7 of their 8 meetings little reechard hasnt won a single set. ferrer is a far superior player. will be interesting to see how gasgay approaches this match as clearly his regular game plan will not work
Report Marin1977 September 4, 2012 1:57 PM BST
This is a nightmare matchup for Gasquet. He has pretty much no chance to win against a healthy and motivated Ferrer. The price is actually pretty juicy.

I agree he has a chance to win the 1st set though (even though he never managed it before, not counting the one match he won somehow), but even if it happens in the end he is not gonna make it.
