Mayer hasn't played a tournament since Wimbledon, but even so I'm surprised to see him as a slight underdog. Turns out he started off as a marginal favourite and drifted out, having been matched for scraps as low as 1.79, but mostly at 1.9s before becoming the dog.
For me, Mayer is a more talented player than Cipolla and has been in better form this year. A record of 7-10 might not look too impressive, but Cipolla isn't really doing any better at 12-17 and Mayer's 10 losses include Ferrer, Nadal, Almagro, Monaco, and Bellucci on clay in Brazil. Not much to choose between them on H2H (the one time they've met was five years ago and featured a retirement by Mayer at 6-1 3-6) or hard court record at tour level.
Unless there's something I'm missing here, Mayer at above evens would seem to be good value.

Players being at the Olympics means that some slightly lower ranked players have higher seedings at tournaments this week than they usually would.
I think I will just wait till one of them is one set up and a break and then lay.

Good call SMB. Although I did exactly same as you and looked at the stats. Mayer pretty good on hard court and taken some reasonably big scalps this year...

nah 6-0 is too obvious for a fix - this Cipola guy is absolute mug and should consider giving up tennis - that is more logical explanation

Indeed. I know what you mean. From someone who has been caught both sides of the retirements, and mostly caught the bad side, I still think retirement is a result and bets shouldn't be voided.
However, I did used to think that about ties in cricket though see the sense in a separate tie market. That's the only compromise I'd agree with - a retirement market.

Are you kidding me? 0f course it's a big difference if a player retires especially after almost losing 6-0 6-0 and odds near 1.01 it would not have made a big difference. He was losing anyway. But with Fish retiring leading with a set and after just holding serve this was totally different. He was also big favourite to win at this time.
Does this really make you wonder? Poor if you can't see the difference here. Nothing funny about that at all!
