Amazes me how Wimbledon haven't given Murray centre court with the roof closed to give him the best chance possible of winning it. Instead they put Ferrer/DP on and leave Murray scratching his arse waiting for the rain to stop.

it would have been fine to have it open for the start of the match if the roof could be closed and made ready in under 15 minutes.
the fact that it takes so incredibly long to get the court ready makes the decision so moronic.
and i'm still utterly confused why they can play in light drizzle but have to wait for the air con to have fully taken effect, rather than play through the 20 minutes it takes for it to become optimal.

this pathetic mistake could cost them 1 match on cc today. they had the plan to start sooner today and move a 4. match on cc. now they will only be able to start at 1pm, which they did the other days. if JMDP and ferrer play a 5-set-battle, they wont be able to get a 4th match on after the women-matches.

and surely they're not gonna play the 2 womens quarters on centre under the roof when there are mens 4th round matches still outstanding and the radar likely to be showing no more play today by that time

Its damn cruel betting on tennis...we dont know what time the matches will resume...iam afraid later when i want to the scoreboard, realise that match already finished and i lose my bet..that is damn cruel

It's not like the committee can do anything about the rain. Closed or open roof, they're going to be struggling after yesterday's rain, today's rain and potentially tomorrow.

jarratt seems very soft and rolls over at the first sight of any criticism
karlovics words seemed to make him put andy on court 1 yesterday as i cant think of any other logical explanation for it
and on thurs/fri (whenever the roof was closed) when it was sunny outside caused some people to criticise the decision so from then on he's kept it open at every opportunity (even when its clearly going to rain)
very weak

I was there yesterday and it seemed farcical to me and a load of others in the crowd not to have the roof on all day, even then they could have fitted a 4th match after Djok

Lets say ferrer match ends at say 5pm..the sun comes out at 4.30...surely they will not open the roof if the weather report says rain forecast at 5.30-6pm?

you know what they should have? an entrance theme for the roof, that they can play everytime the roof is being closed. haven't thought of a fitting tune yet, but maybe something instrumental. any ideas?

It is farcical year after year regardless of the long, long overdue construction of a roof on Centre Court. Why not build a roof for Court One too ffs? Not only that but every year they have no play on the middle Sunday unless rain has virtually wiped out the whole week. Why? They pay no attention to the weather forecast and it is insane to then cram in the last 16 of the men's and women's on the Monday, with the women then required to play their qfs the day after, and with games getting backed up. How many times do we see sunny mornings and rainy afternoons yet the stupid grey suits have all their stupid rules and refuse to start play early - this despite the fact those who queue overnight and pay extortionate prices for tickets, would be delighted if play got underway at 10am. Yet they still don't budge from their 1pm starts, then 12pm, and even then you have a completely unfair situation for the players, especially the men, when they end up having to play on consecutive days in the final week - I recall one year when Nadal had to play on every single day during the 2nd week. Meanwhile, Joe Public is required to queue overnight in hope of getting showcourt tickets while the showbiz glitterati stroll into their freebie seats in the Royal Box. We are then asked to applaud all the famous people for their free day's schmoozing with VIPs on the Saturday. It actually represents everything that is wrong with this country: elitist, backward looking and archaic. Even now with the roof there are these farcical rules whereby play has to stop at 11pm. And then we get these situations where on some days it is closed; on others it is left open, then closes when the rain has arrived and delays the start yet again. And time and again we see classic matches ruined because the light goes at 9pm and they have to return the next day to finish. The reason being time and again, they simply run out of time due to these absurd 1pm and 2pm starts. All Wimbledon officials need to be sacked, the competition needs to be brought into the modern world, fans need to start being respected, as do the players, and the Beeb does not deserve to cover it any more. Forget tradition. Tradition = pompous, idiotic, old school tie network, rules. We are an embarrassment.

johnnyrant, spot on. reminds me of the story of a friend of mine, who wanted to play tennis with a business-partner at queens club. they wont let him play, because he only had a white shirt, but no white shorts.
