....0-30 becomes 30-30?

By far the most common scoring pattern on both ATP and WTA. I'm sure there are some great psychological thinkers who provide a rational explanation for this but amazes me every time!

I always find it amazing how 0-0 becomes 15-0 or 0-15 practically every time. Surprised

i've not really noticed it that much but if the receiver goes 0-30 it's odds on that the score will become 30 all as the server has a big advantage especially in the mens game. smack two 1st serves down and it's 30 all in no time.

Point, taken but you would be amazed at how much 0-30 is perceived as essentially a break in the markets but it so often, in my opion, puts the receiver on the back foot and focuses the server. Would hazard abuses that more serves are broken from 40-40 than 0-30 but that is not the way the markets see it.

Anyway, just thought I'd say Blush

Funny because I was thinking about this the other day. When I play (a pretty average level in all honesty Shocked) I don't become particularly perturbed when 0-30 down on serve. The next point is obviously massive, as even if I lose the one after at 15-30 I'm confident if I go to 30-40 from 15-40 I'm favorite to win the game.

That 0-30 point is pivotal, and I think just winning 1 out of 2 points from 15-30 still puts you in with a decent shout of holding serve. I heard from somewhere that service holds in the men's game were 50% from 0-30. I'm not sure if there is any truth in this. Likewise with 30-40.

An interesting question is whether you'd rather be 0-30 or 30-40. Certainly a tough one. Confused

But no I highly doubt more serves are broken from 40a (deuce) than from 0-30.

0-30 and 30-40, would be close.

It could also probably be said the 0-30 points was where Berdych lost the match today.

He had three? in his favour in that final set, which Fed remained composed on, and won.

He himself played 2 shocking points when 0-30 down on serve. Though having said that he did regain composure to brilliantly get back to deuce each time, but then of course, capitulated...

A few months ago there was discussion about 0-30 vs. 30-40 here and all the statisticians on the forum told that 30-40 is always (with any % of points won on serve) closer to a break. However, sometimes the odds do not work that way.

Is there any statistics? Surely it can’t be pattern, just from a mathematical point of view.
