it's not their fault (for once). if matches aren't being tv produced, they can't show them.

Ahh OK then, I noticed you don't really understand English completely.

You are mixing quality of play (which we don't know about in any case) and quality of tournament organization (which is utter crap).
Report good value losers May 8, 2012 4:25 PM BST
just knew a patronising comment was going to follow
Report rickysomas1 May 8, 2012 4:27 PM BST
no I understand english pretty well... the problem here was more ATP than the tournament organization... tournament organization is more about players accomodations, dressing rooms, referees, line judges, ballboys...

I know that quality of play is pretty good these days, we are watching many matches on streams... it was just a couple hours blackout... it can happen anytime, anywhere in the world...
Report Marin1977 May 8, 2012 4:32 PM BST
Actually IT is also within scope of tournament organization. Not the software itself but the connections.

Both tournament have prize fond of around, what, 8 million Euros... that means they could have had a backup in place for relatively little investment. Organizational failure, end of story.

Marin I wouldn't call it organizational failure... maybe a little, VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY LITTLE MISTAKE.... end f story for me too Laugh good luck with your bets...

Players have been moaning about court quality ever since the tournament was changed to clay a few years ago too and they are doing so again this year. Not just because it's crushed smurfs and their remaining blood that makes the courts slipperey apparently.

Having some IT/Livescore problems for a few hours can happen and doesn't really harm anyone important, but to still not be able to get the courts laid out properly after this many years is just lame.
Report rickysomas1 May 8, 2012 4:39 PM BST
players are allowed to skip the tournament if they don't like it... aren't they? Confused
Report edy May 8, 2012 4:44 PM BST
All Masters1000 (ATP, Monte-Carlo being the lone exception) and Premier Mandatory (WTA) are...well...mandatory as at least the WTA name suggests. They'd have to come up with some injury excuse to skip the tournament. There might be penalties for skipping, even with injury, or less money from a bonus pool. Not sure about that, would've to take a look at the rulebooks.
Report edy May 8, 2012 5:10 PM BST
Our always happy go lucky frenchman Simon had this to say about the court condition: "I do not notice any difference from last year. These are the worst courts of the clay court season. I do not feel good about them. They almost gave me a sprain in training."

Long nosed spanish (ATP250) clay master: "The courts are sliding a lot. It's a different, unique surface that isn’t used in any other tournament. It’s so close to Roland Garros that we prefer to play on red clay. The court is not in the best condition. You slip a lot and hopefully there will be no injuries. To [stay upright] on the court you need to make a real effort. But Ion Tiriac and Manolo Santana wanted to have a blue court and there we have it. They, in favour of the show, wanted this court and we have to comply." -

Our favourite Sergiy on tour "After playing a match on blueclay court 6 I can say with full responsibility on my shoulders that it is the worst court of @ATPWorldTour."

All three players won the matches after which they said that, so it's not like they made those comments because they were pissed about losing or anything Plain

Our resident self-described cow on ice was more cautious in her comments, but also said it felt like the courts were rather uneven.

There might be penalties for skipping

think the tournament counts towards rankings whether you play or not, so you get a big fat zero. there may be bonus pool stuff too.

And Ricky: who of the top players has shown their best tennis yet? Who of the top players has played yet???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Did Djokovic show his best tennis to get past Gimeno-Traver???

This tournament is so **** and the surface so slippy that probably Isner or Raonic will win the turnament.

gawd what a travesty. so far seen em water the court too little, too much (enough at least for Djoko to stop the game) spray all over Cilic's clothes leading to him having a fit, spray on a player having Mto and now taking the piss with sweeping Davy's side of the court  Laugh

I like different colour surfaces...I like people sliding on clay , getting their shoes and socks dirty..Having to whack their tennis racquet on their shoes to get dirt off.

This feels like I am still in the hard  court season.Doesn't feel like clay.

Can't they have blue colours on the clay they used to use?
Report sammybizzle May 9, 2012 5:57 PM BST
Having said that..This court is clearly difficult to play on.That is a good thing in one sense. It should be a challenge . It is not like there are holes on the court. It is not a badly designed court, but it's so new to everyone and therefore a tough challenge. But  that should be seen as a new test not a bitch moan just to go back to comfortable normality

ignore that, board... now it's even quoting myself. anyway:

ffs afraid of a new thing... it's just clever marketing. they sold it to you with a bs story about better visibility and it being a test while it's a hazard and you bought it. complaints are legit and coming from across the field not just from players that are in disadvantage because of it.
