1 word. Clay.

I actually tend to agree, odds on Novak seem good.  I guess the market is factoring in the fact that Djokovic has had a few 3 setters while Rafa's route to the final has been so far perfect. Rafa wins so many matches through sheer intimidation, the player on the other side on the net doesn't truly believe they can trade with him from the baseline, Novak knows he can and though we know all about Rafa's record here at this tournament, market is slightly in denial as Rafa's dominance on clay is not what it was, Novak should be favourite to beat him on any surface they meet on.

Quite simply he is a better player in every regard, he retrieves better, mentally stronger, more penetrating groundstrokes...never thought I'd be saying all this remembering the dizzy heights Rafa reached on this surface but it's true, Novak is basically an improved version of Rafa, factor in the fact that he will feel it his destiny to win this in memory of his grandfather's passing...I expect a high quality close affair but odds against versus a man who he's beaten in 7 consecutive finals? If this isn't value I don't know what is.

This is not the same Novak as last year
Report farki April 21, 2012 10:35 PM BST
Not the same Novak than last year, but can be the same Novak or even better Novak if
it is needed... Also not the same Rafa than last year and previous years and will never
be again the same !

what a load of apeshyte. that was a titanic battle, an ugly, extremely close and memorable encounter of two of the best you'll see in your lifetime.

tomorrow there will be no owning whatsoever. except of the mugs that think an even shot on an atp1000 final is where they should get their money.

ctrl-z, I agree with skips21.

Simply because Novak beat Rafa in last 7 finals!! That simply means: Nadal is helpless, i'e. possessed, i.e OWNED (by Djoker)!

Case closed.

Even if he wins tomorrow, Nadal will remain owned by Djoker. Coz, one victory cannot erase 7 humiliating defeats!

that word again-CLAY
Report yyyy April 22, 2012 3:09 AM BST
NO, NOT CLAY. Djoko beat crap out of Nadal twice on the clay last year.

It is stupidity of the market, taking into account Nole`s lack of concentration this week (grief over his family member loss), and his rather average performance on the way to final.

I agree Nadal shouldn't be favourite, although it is going to be very close match.
So, perhaps Djokovic 1.9 and Nadal 2.1 would be more realistic odds.

Djoker won last 7
Djoker won last 2 on CLAY dropping ZERO sets
Report dimebar8 April 22, 2012 8:11 AM BST
the odds are simply because of his ropey form through the tournament that's all... and maybe all the big firms have Nadal fave for a reason Wink
Report playitsafe April 22, 2012 11:11 AM BST
the big firms had Nadal as favourite in every final they played last year also. including the two masters events on CLAY where Novak handed rafa his ass

nadal cant hurt djokovic and is clueless as to how to beat him. novak has taken 10 of last 12, all of last 7. massive mental battle for rafa to even take a set from him. i dont care how many times rafa has won this event or how many relatives djoko has lost this week, if djoko plays at anything like his best it will be a comprehensive victory.
