Interesting matchup.
For me Polona is top 10 material on clay courts alone, while Bartoli considers clay her least prefered surface though she did have a good FO run last year but to be honest it was quite a lucky draw for her. Think i'll go with the value here. Bartoli was awful yesterday.

Polona can win.... but I doubt it a lot... Marion will have the time to get to the ball and oblige her playing an extra shot or two... will Polona hit the court again? I can't see Polona closing many points coming to the net too.... Bartoli should win here... even if it's on clay...

for me, bartoli is on the verge of tanking she played 10 matches since IW, during last 3,5 weeks maybe its not that much but considering top class opponents and back to back quaters and semis at two big premier mand tournaments without a break, in very hot conditions its like slam and a half in a row, all the players who did this kind of run now resting
bartoli usually can play a lot,but she also is keen tanker she had tough last match and was strugling,price is a bit high for me to lay straight away but if it drops a bit i probably will do it, only concern its not on the telly |

Hercog has not had a win against any top 50 player this year.
How do you expect her to beat Bartoli? Yesterday Bartoli had 1 awful set. Big deal! |

Bartoli is a RG semifinalist. Hercog had a few good results on clay but the matchup is horrendous for her.

they just played. on actual hardcourt and Bartoli likely in worse shape now, as mentioned, than at the start in Miami. price justified just too big to lay upfront, as mentioned.

if bartoli would wanted to tank here she would tank with dushevina yesterday not fight like hell, i dont think she will tank, she will have a full free next week

meets with a more talented player today who is fresh an playing on more favourable surface. not sure what happened in last match, by the looks of it Bartoli stepped it up so that's a worry. i'll wait.

H2H 7/3 to Dushevina. 9 matches took place between 2004 and 2007 of which one on clay. Last one took place in 2010 which Bartoli won. So Dushevina's last win goes back to 2007. Only one meeting took place on CLAY in 2004 This is why you favour Hercog???????? ctrl-z Hercog more talented???? You cannot be serious |

Dont think any player would be comfortable to tank against mug who crushed her few times.so it was probably more personal matter to win for barto. |

I think Bartoli's "tanking" days are gone, these days she can collapse from overplaying but not quit. That is why I am a big fan

That match wasn't streamed IIRC, I got the impression from the SB that she fought but couldn't pull it off. Also, her style of play is punishing and she can get exhausted.
That said, I don't see that she has any physical problems now, Dushevina was possibly an unpleasant matchup for her due to H2H (however old that was). Also, Dushevina can sometimes actually play really well (shockingly so). |
