If only it were true! The reality is that this is just a ploy so that he can boost himself with debatable "therapeutic treatments" over the next week or two and come back as superhero Nadal in time for the clay season. Expect other top players also to have similar "injuries" over the next few weeks.

The publicity?  No, I'm pretty sure the rules will state that if a player drops out with injury, they're counted as losing players from the point of view of an Outright.  I don't think publicity would help you one bit, regardless of whether it was a slam or not.
