Report jsimpson67. • March 16, 2012 8:40 PM GMT
why does del potro simply his cross court in his matches vs fed?

does he not realise this gives fed control of the point, which is absolutely vital in this matchup

amazingly naive, cant work it out
Report thepunter • March 16, 2012 8:40 PM GMT
robbed ? it was on 40-40. He missed 2 bps before, UEs on every chance. Further it was the first game, never easy for the server, early breaks dont mean too much by the way.
Report WD • March 16, 2012 8:41 PM GMT
should just put pressure on his forehand like nadal always does

early breaks don't mean much?

I'm pretty sure I'm right in saying that the first game of any match has the highest service hold %. So surely an early break means more.

his court positioning on return

it's a 125mph serve, it's the angles you have to watch vs fed

it's his 4th match vs him this year, how can he be so clueless

quite incredible

it would be a different game, but if that happened to fed he probably wouldnt of let it effect him anywhere near as much.

Report ;[p • March 16, 2012 8:46 PM GMT
early break surely should mean less as the other player has more time to comeback to the matchCrazy

Early break also seems to be what gives this set to Federer Happy

Report singero • March 16, 2012 8:48 PM GMT
easy, easy holds for delpo. fed doesn't want to put in the effort it seems
Report nofx • March 16, 2012 8:48 PM GMT
any break is what gives the set to Fed
Report RememberJeremyBates • March 16, 2012 8:49 PM GMT
Fed doing an economical job here. not really putting the effort in once he's broken his foe. Just serve out the set and do the same next set.

Nadal fighting for every point is far more entertaining, though...
Report thepunter • March 16, 2012 8:50 PM GMT
Worst stats must be 12th game of each set, then 13th, 11th because of pressure to stay in the set/match. Later probably the famous 7th game, and in 5th worse position comes the first game.

Google Klaassen and magnus tennis analysis or something similar. I'm not saying they're right, just referencing it.

The estimated probability of winning a service game if it is not in the first set is 80.1%
(0.5%) in the men’s singles and 62.0% (0.7%) in the ladies’ singles. The probability of winning
a service game in the first set (including the first two games) is significantly higher, namely
82.4% (0.8%) in the men’s singles and 65.2% (1.1%) in the ladies’ singles. The reason why the
probability in the first set is higher is entirely due to the effect of the first game in the match. The
probability that the server wins this first game is 87.7% (2.0%) in the men’s singles and 74.3%
(2.9%) in the ladies’ singles

delpo used to be able to absolutely crush the ball, esp. on the forehand. now when he grunts and hits it, it's a 50 mph blooper that lands half-way between service line and baseline.

dlepos forehand is different as due to injury he had to change his technique of hitting it(it was destroying his wrist bfore)
so he is not as much deadly and probably never will be, and also making many more errors
