Report Danito February 28, 2012 7:09 PM GMT
3 options:

1. "Snow-ball effect" caused by a sharp drop on Simon price just before the start of the match.
2. The market is pricing that Berlocq might not be fresh enough. He has played many matches recently and had a long trip to Acapulco from Buenos Aires a couple of days ago.
3. Berlocq's "friends" know he is gonna lose this match

I vote for 3...
Report WhiteAl February 28, 2012 7:09 PM GMT
drift happened way too late for it to be pure natural market movement
Report Srichaphan or Ancic? February 28, 2012 7:09 PM GMT
People do know that Berlocq, as prematch favourite, wins 87% of matches having won the first set, and that he is in excellent form, while Simon wins just 17% of matches from a set down and is in bad form, right?
Report MoneyBagger February 28, 2012 7:11 PM GMT
Crazy prices...Berlocq must be missing a leg or something
Report WhiteAl February 28, 2012 7:11 PM GMT
That's why I said I would back him here without question.

Report ItRainsSometimes February 28, 2012 7:14 PM GMT
hmm, whats going on? b365 just removed it.
Report Srichaphan or Ancic? February 28, 2012 7:14 PM GMT
People say Berlocq is injured, someone panics, it produces more panic from others, who push Simon to favourite, then they start playing and those people try to ensure Simon stays as favourite so they can get out of their bets.
Report Srichaphan or Ancic? February 28, 2012 7:15 PM GMT
And those people then put big bets on Simon at big odds on the bookies to ensure they dont lose either way. Bookies realise, close the market because they suspect something dodgy.

he wouldnt hold 2 games against a counterpuncher like simon who would use every inch of the court just to screw him up even more

Report Srichaphan or Ancic? February 28, 2012 7:38 PM GMT
It does not have to be fixed for a match winner. It can be the equivalent of spot fixing in cricket.
Report Srichaphan or Ancic? February 28, 2012 7:39 PM GMT
i.e. someone knew that Simon would break serve first.
Report Gibbo99 February 28, 2012 7:39 PM GMT
The odds are always like this when someone seems injured. The market can't work out how much to compensate so you just get people following the last few bets and creating waves of money that push the odds too far every time someone breaks/ goes 0-30 down/ the injured person limps slightly/ injury time out is taken.

This is simply not fixed - A player like Simon has absolutely NO NEED to. Money? no. Huge risk? yes. There's your answer.

There've been quite a few matches in the past with far too high odds or huge prematch drifts that turned out to not be fixes later. From the top pf my head Koellerer-Ancic, Dabul-Soeda, Bammer-Azarenka, Schnyder-Dementieva.

Feel free to think it's fixed and put your bank on it. C'mon, easy free money.
