Just at the start of the contest they show a list of the top 10 countries on screen who have won the contest the most times. in first place is Ireland with 7 wins, In second place is Sweden with 6 wins and down to joint 8th place Ukraine with 3 wins. The presenter(s) also announce that Sweden only needs one more win to have the most wins which may or may not be seen as a subtle hint to push Sweden for the win on the night. The presenter(s) also announce the return of Luxembourg to the contest.

Hmmmit is suspicious to mention that. I don't think they did last year

Report Corbyguy May 12, 2023 4:40 PM BST
They haven't done in any previous year that i am aware of where they provide a list of the top x countries who have won it the most when a new country or former country returns to the contest or even without a new or former country returning to the contest. I do find it suspicious that when they show and provide a list this year on screan that they mention that Sweden only needs one more win to have the most wins in the contest (even if they actually tie with Ireland for the most wins) when Sweden is the very hot short odds on fave to win this year with Loreen who would become the first female ever to win the contest twice. Perhaps it is just my suspicious brain that sees it.
Report Angela Rebecchi May 12, 2023 5:06 PM BST
I think any mention of a country the more it seeps into the sub consciousness of the viewer. I'm just hoping if they win it's because they're within 100 points of the top of the public vote. If it's done a Heroes of 2015 and hacked up with the jury's then it's a sad non contest already.

One of the biggest travesties was Norway topping the vote in 2019 but finishing 6th overall as the juries somehow only awarded a total of 40. Hard to fathom that.

Do you want the juries scrapped or just having less influence? Market would be quite boring and predictable with the former, no?
Report Angela Rebecchi May 14, 2023 12:19 AM BST
I think less influence ideally. Or at least a bit more objective. Loreen doubling others scores is simply crazy imho.
Report SamuelMertensBertens May 14, 2023 12:29 AM BST
The former they could do. As for more objective, they're going to vote for who they like so not really possible. But a 66.6% people and 33.3% jury instead of 50/50 could work.
Report Angela Rebecchi May 14, 2023 12:32 AM BST
That is what I was thinking. Probably deemed too convoluted for the masses though !
Report Cider May 14, 2023 12:39 AM BST

Report Angela Rebecchi May 14, 2023 12:48 AM BST
It's not a market/money point I am making.
