They've got a dilemma with Joe. In a year where the women are so much better than the men, who are almost all poor, they've got to big up the best man ie Joe. But they also don't want anybody's prior fans to unfairly skew the final result.
He's got to be around for a long while anyway. |
By:
Yes he's my biggest Green and whilst he's perhaps surprised us and is decent he isn't exactly great is he. Thought his ballroom this week was quite average. That said seems a very nice young man which isn't a bad thing so hope he keeps improving.
By:
I agree with you both Henry & Lou.
Thought he was really good week 1 for a non dancer but not so impressed this week. I still have him a good green but have laid off a lot of my stake as happy to have backed him at good prices. If it wasn't for his fanbase I'd of laid of all my stake and have him as a free bet. Will be interesting to see how he progresses. |
By:
By the way I had never heard of him before Strictly but I know of 5 people (very young) who never usually watch strictly and are now watching every week because he is in it.

Decent again but his likeability more of a vote winner than his dance ability. Has to improve to even make final for me.
He's my biggest green but not at all confident he wins it. |

Joe @ 6.00

Yep, a bit weird that one. He was great the 1st week. Jive really suited him. But downhill since then
By:
They've got to have at least one male going far. So it falls to the stick insect, although Danny looks like he's had some dance training.
By:
To be perfectly honest I haven't enjoyed his dancing the last 2 weeks.
If he gets to the final it will only be because he has a HUGE fanbase. |
By:
Maybe some one knows the voting and that's why he's so short.
By:
must be the voting cant be his dancing
By:
if his vote was too much would they try and get rid of him before the final to keep it competitive?
By:
No, probably not, as the belief is that TPTB recruited him specifically for his younger following, so you`d have to assume they`re in no great hurry to be rid of him. And even if the vote is uncompetitive, it doesn`t matter, because viewers won`t know it.
By:
I suspect, as we've seen in many other shows, it's more the market being afraid of his millions of followers, rather than anyone placing bets knowing he's doing very well in the vote.
Awaits Star leak, to be proved wrong |

Suspect your right; I was answering a hypothetical, one I`m inclined to doubt as well.

Thing is we all know the sort of standards they reach towards the end where the top few all look really good and worthy of nines, even tens.
Whilst we can see Ash and Faye are almost there already and Stacey seems capable apart from those three with a possible chance too for Vicki who's young, supple and not started badly at all who else is there, the others just aren't going to be that standard mainly due to their age. How can someone like Kate hit those heights, Charles the same and whilst Lauren is young and fit she's just not good enough IMO. Graeme or Seann to win it? Surely not. With Joe however he does have all the right attributes and has started pretty well. What with his nice demeanour, "Aah isn't he sweet" way about him and possible big following because of his popular 'Blogger' status and of course he's the only male realistically that can challenge the girls he's in with a shout. So for me it's the three obvious girls with a possible chance for Joe and Vicki and you can forget the rest. |
By:
i had a bet on this show a few weeks ago but im increasingly worried joe could have this won already. if he tops the public vote every week he will win the whole thing no matter where hes positioned on the leaderboard. however logically if hes was so far ahead his price would be significantly shorter than 6.
By:
can accept losing fair and square but hate giving it away.
By:
That's always a risk with specials. That you're betting against people who 'know' the result. But a tiny one imo

Of course though who knows if he's topping the vote every week. He seems a popular young man and of course his 'Blog' can't be a bad thing but who knows he could be scraping through. I'm just happy that he goes through each week somehow. |

I have Joe as a green although I laid a little a few days ago. I’ll be keeping the green as there is too much risk in taking him red IMHO. It looks like his odds are based in part on his YouTube views and likes. The key issue is whether these views are translating into votes. If we knew the answer to that question, his odds would be either 2.00 or 20.
Two points. First, several successful male winners, and even more finalists, have improved over the series, often not catching up with the experienced dancers until, say, late November. I see that no-one is making the case that Joe might improve in a similar manner. He shares the same attributes as other male improvers e.g. young, hard-working, musical ear. He’s also not afraid to act out a role which is something that several previous male improvers lacked at least initially. Second, the YouTube stats are astonishing. This week he has 5-6 times the views of Seann who is second, and around 9 times the views of Stacey who is third. One possibility is that his views come from many repeat viewings from a relatively small number of teenage girls. However, the unique likes stats should take care of that as each viewer can post only one like. This week Joe has 30 times the number of likes of his nearest competitor. Here are the detailed YouTube stats for this week’s dances as of yesterday evening. I’m not sure how this table will appear in the post but there are three numbers after each contestant representing views, likes and dislikes. Week 04 Joe Sugg 706,947 19,780 149 Week 04 Seann Walsh 121,603 613 528 Week 04 Stacey Dooley 78,197 622 26 Week 04 Ashley Roberts 62,721 540 36 Week 04 Faye Tozer 51,650 486 9 Week 04 Charles Venn 41,782 295 14 Week 04 Kate Silverton 40,655 283 9 Week 04 Graeme Swann 38,606 380 10 Week 04 Katie Piper 35,129 215 14 Week 04 Vick Hope 34,847 397 16 Week 04 Lauren Steadman 32,587 439 9 Week 04 Ranj Singh 30,955 259 12 Week 04 Danny John-Jules 20,873 217 7 |

Yes well said and all these points only sound pluses for Joe so I hope you're right as ideally he's the one I want to win. Good stuff Sir. |

Once again fairly decent but he's had a few dances now and just doesn't seem good enough compared to the three girls. When is he going to really get it like say the other 'Joe' did last year who became about an 8/10 dancer by the end. What would you rate this Joe at now about a 6? I don't see how I could give him 7 in all honesty.
Do hope he starts picking it up as although he's looking finals bound maybe I just wonder that the public will ultimately see he's not in the same league as Ash, Faye and less so Stacey so he'll fall short. Come on Joe! |

Thanks for the comments. I’m not going to post stats every week as they get boring after a while if they’re just saying the same thing. However, I tried something different this week.
Another argument against Joe’s stats is that his videoblog viewers may not watch the show or catch the voting window. We can’t test for that directly as the videos are not posted by the BBC until about 21:30 – after the voting window closes. The best we can do is to look at very early stats and assume that early video viewers are most likely to have been viewers of the show. Here are three sets of stats showing the build-up of views for week 05. They are in the same format as before i.e. views, likes, dislikes. Stats are: Week 05 @ + 1 hour after publication Week 05 @ + 24 hours Top 10 videos of the series @ week 05 + 50 hours. Week 05 @ + 1 hour – same story as before. Week 05 Joe Sugg 13,864 1,730 8 Week 05 Charles Venn 1,683 186 3 Week 05 Danny John-Jules 1,548 170 3 Week 05 Lauren Steadman 848 100 5 Week 05 Stacey Dooley 832 97 7 Week 05 Ashley Roberts 711 79 1 Week 05 Graeme Swann 540 58 3 Week 05 Seann Walsh 441 30 19 Week 05 Faye Tozer 416 51 2 Week 05 Vick Hope 400 37 4 Week 05 Kate Silverton 264 26 4 Week 05 Ranj Singh 256 33 0 Week 05 @ + 24 hours – Danny & Charles are doing very well this week. Joe is only ahead of them by a factor of 3. Relatively speaking, they have caught up a bit with Joe in comparison with the + 1 hour stats. Week 05 Joe Sugg 294,386 10,526 63 Week 05 Danny John-Jules 91,026 1,065 17 Week 05 Charles Venn 87,729 1,495 17 Week 05 Stacey Dooley 52,714 626 28 Week 05 Lauren Steadman 41,759 571 18 Week 05 Ashley Roberts 37,932 541 10 Week 05 Vick Hope 25,124 201 15 Week 05 Seann Walsh 23,905 160 93 Week 05 Graeme Swann 22,165 313 7 Week 05 Faye Tozer 21,268 264 7 Week 05 Ranj Singh 20,919 184 3 Week 05 Kate Silverton 13,921 149 5 Top 10 videos of the series @ week 05 + 50 hours – a clean sweep for Joe. However, it’s fair to say that Joe’s stats have fallen from the first two weeks even bearing in mind that those videos have been up for longer. That might be down to the types of dance in the first two weeks (Jive and Charleston are always popular). Alternatively, maybe some of Joe’s blog viewers watched the first two dances but then lost interest in the show. For comparison with a couple of the all-time best performing Strictly videos, Jay McGuinness’s jive has 3.8 million views after 3 years, while Danny Mac’s samba has 2.6 million views after 2 years. Week 01 Joe Sugg 2,067,408 60,651 470 Week 02 Joe Sugg 1,362,511 40,266 324 Week 03 Joe Sugg 831,416 23,949 173 Week 04 Joe Sugg 779,086 20,633 160 Week 05 Joe Sugg 371,817 12,277 74 Week 03 Seann Walsh 364,715 2,301 177 Week 03 Faye Tozer 300,431 2,800 47 Week 03 Stacey Dooley 224,084 1,648 61 Week 03 Ashley Roberts 213,051 2,204 88 Week 01 Stacey Dooley 203,019 1,224 31 Finally, Joe and Dianne are now doing a video each week where they show Joe’s progress on each dance. They are a bit Blue Peter presenter-ish for my taste, but they do show his improvement through the week. These videos include the full Saturday performance, so anyone who is interested in Joe, but not Strictly, doesn’t now need to go to the BBC site to see his dances, so those viewers WILL NOT be adding to the BBC video stats. Here’s their Cha Cha Cha video which currently has about 500,000 views. Note that he explains the narrow voting window at the end of the video to encourage blog viewers to vote. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFEfsip-xUg |

Yes excellent stuff and all these stats can't be a bad thing in Joe's favour so fingers crossed ......... |

Thought Joe was better last night, getting a bit closer to the real good two girl dancers. Got a way to go to be in their league but ticking along very nicely and final 4 beckons IMO.
By:
It would be useful to know how many of Joe's followers are in the UK as successful YouTube and Twitter accounts have no borders and the UK is a small minority of English speakers.

To be fair Henry taking his online popularity status aside he does deserve to be still in it on dance capabilities alone. I'd grade him about 5th or 6th best at the moment and seems to be improving.

Yes and all the men are so dire.

I think Danny is very good and Charles too to be fair but I'm large red on both of them so want them out. More worried about Danny of the two obviously.

Yes done really well and good again last night but doesn't have the 'Wow' factor like a Ash or Faye would. For me I'd rate his dance skills all round at about 7/10 whereas the other two are surely 9's they're terrific every week and Stacey an 8/10 for me so talent wise he's got to improve I think. |
